Registered Nurse - Emergency Department

East and North Hertfordshire Teaching NHS Trust is recruiting for a full-time Registered Nurse for the Emergency Department. The role supports our vision to provide consistently outstanding care and exemplary service to patients while working within a rapidly expanding Emergency Department and Urgent Treatment Centre.
Main Duties
* Assess, plan, implement and evaluate the care needs of patients from admission (or before) to discharge, with the involvement of patients and their relatives/carers.
* Participate in the ongoing training, supervision and support of registered and non‑registered nursing staff, including Trainee Assistant Practitioners, Clinical Support Workers and pre‑registration Student Nurses.
* Evaluate own knowledge and practice, and use relevant learning opportunities such as department training, Trust training, conference attendance, shadowing and literature review.
* Communicate effectively and work in partnership with patients, nursing colleagues, the multidisciplinary team and all relevant personnel.
* Recognise and respond appropriately to urgent and emergency situations, utilising escalation strategies such as SBAR and local pathways.
Note: We are not currently able to support OSCE training.

Person Specification
Qualifications
* Registered Nurse on part 1, part 2 or part 12 of the NMC register.
* Commitment to lifelong learning.
* Evidence of ongoing professional development.
* Evidence of Assessing and Mentorship qualification.
Experience
* Experience within an Emergency Department or equivalent ward environment.
* Currently working in an acute ward environment within the NHS.
* Experience supporting students/clinical support workers within the NHS.
Skills
* Good communication skills, both written and verbal.
* Ability to work within a team and autonomously.
* Recognising and managing acutely unwell patients.
Knowledge
* Awareness of strategies for maintaining a safe environment for patients, staff and visitors.
* Understanding of Trust policies including IPC standards, uniform policy, etc.
* Understanding of current NHS issues and 4‑hour performance targets.
