Responsibilities

* Meet the requirements of an ‘Associate’ grade and have a proven track record in both leading projects for your discipline and for an overall project team. Demonstrate where your personal input has led to the commission being won or successfully delivered.
* Work in a joint leadership capacity within a mechanical, electrical and public health (MEP) discipline team, providing design and technical advice with a multidisciplinary approach on a wide range of projects.
* Operate with your own initiative and minimal supervision on all technical aspects of your discipline or bring specific specialist experience applicable to the role.
* Work under the clear direction of the client and interpret the needs of the project as a whole to meet the full delivery needs.
* Supervise the completion of detailed designs and oversee the work of others in this function.
* Consider the feasibility of the project specific to the discipline and lead the overall feasibility study for the project.
* Take responsibility for and direct others in the production of detailed and performance specification for the discipline subject to review by colleagues prior to issue.
* Review design programmes and ensure that sufficient resources are available to complete the works.

* Building Services in Cambridge consists of 25 mechanical, electrical, and public health engineers who form part of the National MEP Team of nearly 400 MEP engineers.

Key Technical Requirements

* Having an understanding of the UK and European regulations applicable to the discipline and how to demonstrate this in project execution.
* Have UK project experience within Building Services MEP.
* Have working understanding of latest electrical design software packages to allow the allocation and direction of work on projects.
* Have understanding of working with Revit MEP or other 3D design software to allow the allocation and direction of work on projects.
* Have an ability to sketch and communicate technical detail graphically and effectively.
* Have working knowledge of AutoCAD to allow the allocation and direction of work on projects.


Electrical Design Skills

* Low voltage distribution systems
* Low voltage standby generation
* UPS systems
* Cable calculations (via software and by hand)
* Lighting calculations (via software and by hand)
* Small power
* Fire alarms
* Intruder detection
* Access control & security systems
* Disabled call systems
* Data cabling and outlets
* Lightning protection


Qualifications

* BEng/BSc/MEng in applicable engineering discipline
* CIBSE / IET / Engineering Council accredited honours degree or specific experience that will lead to Chartership.
* Working towards I Eng or C Eng status
* Revit MEP training applied to the discipline
