Role Overview
A Senior Associate specializing in construction matters will join our highly regarded Construction team, focusing primarily on non‑contentious work while remaining open to occasional contentious assignments. The role offers the opportunity to broaden your expertise and progress within a supportive team that handles high‑value, high‑profile projects across sectors such as energy, infrastructure, healthcare, education, commercial, and consumer brands.
Responsibilities
As a member of the team you will:
* Review and advise on contract terms proposed to clients, drafting and negotiating contracts, appointments, and ancillary documents.
* Provide counsel to public and private‑sector clients across the construction supply chain, primarily on the employer/client side.
* Interact with clients and their advisors via in‑person meetings and Teams calls, supporting fast‑paced, varied cases.
* Collaborate with Partners, Managing and Senior Associates, and other colleagues to run files efficiently as a safe pair of hands.
Qualifications & Experience
The ideal candidate will have:
* At least 5 years’ post‑qualified experience in Construction and Engineering practice.
* Hands‑on experience advising and acting on a range of construction matter types in line with client and work types described above.
* Extensive drafting and negotiating experience across contract families including JCT, NEC, FIDIC, IChemE, and energy contracts (EPCs, O&Ms, bespoke appointments) and ancillary documents such as collateral warranties, bonds, PCGs, etc.
* A genuine interest in promoting business‑development opportunities.
* Strong interpersonal skills and effective communication at all levels (written and verbal).
* A commercial, proactive, and professional approach to work, with excellent organisational and multi‑tasking abilities.
* A team‑player mindset, self‑motivation, commitment to career growth, and a strong understanding of confidentiality and discretion.
* Demonstrable self‑confidence, initiative, and innovative thinking.
