Overview
Starting October 2025, we are delighted to offer a new opportunity for a committed and compassionate Behaviour Support Worker to join our Special Educational Needs Department, working closely with students who present with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. This role provides targeted support to students who may require additional regulation strategies throughout the school day, with a strong emphasis on practical engagement and relational development. The right candidate will promote respectful language and behaviours, enabling holistic development within school and the wider community.
Location: New Hey Road, Huddersfield, HD3 4GN. Hours: 28.75 hours per week (+additional hours available when required), term time only. Position type: Permanent. Salary: Grade 7 (18,905 pro rata).
Responsibilities
* Provide targeted support to students with SEMH needs, focusing on practical engagement and regulation strategies throughout the school day.
* Act as a positive role model to promote respectful language and behaviours and support holistic development within school and the wider community.
* Facilitate practical activities (such as sport, engineering, and hands-on learning experiences) tailored to individual student interests and needs to promote emotional regulation, engagement, and positive behaviour.
* Collaborate with the SENCo and the wider pastoral team to identify students requiring SEMH support and implement structured break and intervention sessions.
* Contribute to the development of behaviour support strategies, monitor student progress, and maintain clear communication with staff to ensure a consistent and supportive approach.
* Adapt tasks, be flexible in approach, and take initiative to develop new opportunities for regulation and support.
* Support students within classroom environments and contribute to a safe, structured environment that fosters growth and resilience.
Requirements / Qualifications
* Experience or demonstrated capability in supporting students with SEMH needs and behaviour management.
* Ability to work collaboratively with the SENCo and pastoral teams.
* Interest in sport and other practical disciplines to build rapport and engagement with students.
* Adaptability, flexibility, and initiative in developing new opportunities for regulation and support.
