We have a great opportunity for a highly motivated, enthusiastic, committed, and flexible Registered Nurse to join our Team at Crawley Hospital, West Sussex Integrated Sexual Health Service.
The successful candidate will be placed on a supportive and structured education and training pathway, centred on reflective supervision, clinical skills, and research. We offer full training in Genito-Urinary Medicine and support with completing the FSRH Diploma in Contraception and Sexual Health. On completion of relevant competencies will progress to Band 6.
We would also be pleased to hear from you if you already have some Sexual Health experience and wish to develop your skills.
You will have substantial post-registration experience at Band 5 and enjoy working as part of a team.
The unit is open 6 days a week so you will need to be flexible with your working hours and occasionally be prepared to travel across the region for training or meetings.
Crawley Sexual Health Department is part of the West Sussex Integrated Sexual Health Service which also has hub clinics in Worthing and Chichester as well as some spoke clinics across the region.
Main duties of the job
The post holder provides nursing advice and support to clients attending the Integrated Sexual Health Service, providing a comprehensive client-centred service, which will give up-to-date, accurate evidence to provide and deliver factual and current information on all methods of contraception, sexual health, health promotion, health checks, and other relevant services which will lead to empowering clients to make their own decision and appropriate choice.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
The post holder will be guided by the Team Manager in working on the continued development of the Integrated Sexual Health Service (ISHS) within the locality (hub and spokes).
As part of the wider ISHS team they will work towards ensuring service provision meets the Key Performance Targets and professionally recognised standards and services in line with National and local strategy, the Department of Health ’15 Steps’ quality criteria and supports Patient First, a trust-wide approach to improving the quality of care offered to patients. The post holder follows national and local policy. They will liaise with a number of partnership agencies and practitioners, particularly those working with clients under the age of 18.
The post holder will demonstrate knowledge in the assessment, development, care, delivery, and evaluation of programmes of care for clients of all ages, sometimes working in settings which are nurse-only delivered. They will also share knowledge and skills with all staff within the ISHS and those clients attending or being supported by the integrated sexual health services.
They will provide line management as necessary with support and advice to the Band 3 nursing staff working within the area.
Person specification
Qualifications
* Substantial post-registration Study at degree level or equivalent level of knowledge.
* Recognised qualifications in areas of relevance. Eg GUM, CASH, HIV Certificates in teaching and assessing/ Mentorship.
Knowledge, Training and Experience
* Maintains a portfolio of work experience.
* Experience of working in sexual health providing GUM and contraceptive care or Band 5 experience in related speciality.
* Use of PGDs.
* Competent in utilisation of CaSH knowledge and skills Microscopy.
* Wart Treatment.
Communication and Relationship Skills
* Adept in handling difficult and sensitive information from patients where developed persuasive, negotiating, empathy and motivational and reassurance skills are required whilst supporting the patient who may be angry or upset.
* Knowledge and ability to apply Fraser competencies for those aged 16 and under.
Analytical and Judgmental
* Able to complete patient assessment and advise on an appropriate range of options.
