Permanent Job Advert: Social Worker - Special Guardianship (Placement Team) | Vale of Glamorgan Council

Are you a dedicated and experienced Social Worker with a passion for achieving permanence for children through Special Guardianship? The Vale of Glamorgan Council is seeking a committed Social Worker to join their Placement Team, with a specialist focus on Special Guardianship. This is a crucial permanent opportunity to provide stability and security for children who cannot return to their birth parents.

Salary: £34,834 - £43,421 per annum (depending on experience)

About the Role:

As a Social Worker specialising in Special Guardianship within the Placement Team, you will play a key role in assessing, supporting, and reviewing Special Guardianship arrangements. Your work will ensure children achieve stability within their wider family networks, providing a permanent home while maintaining appropriate family links. Your responsibilities will typically include:

Completing robust Special Guardianship Assessments (SGOs) and viability assessments for connected persons, assessing their suitability to care for children long-term.
Preparing and presenting comprehensive assessments to the Fostering Panel and, where necessary, providing evidence in court.
Developing and reviewing Special Guardianship Support Plans, ensuring they meet the assessed needs of the child and the Special Guardian(s), including financial, therapeutic, and contact support.
Providing ongoing support and supervision to Special Guardians, helping them navigate the challenges of their role and promoting placement stability.
Working in partnership with children, Special Guardians, birth parents, and other professionals to manage contact arrangements and ensure positive relationships where appropriate.
Collaborating with colleagues in Fostering and other children's teams to identify and support suitable permanent placements.
Maintaining accurate and timely records in line with statutory requirements and local policies.

What We're Looking For:

A Social Work Degree or equivalent relevant degree.
At least 2 years of post-qualifying experience working with children and families in the UK, with specific experience in permanence planning, fostering, connected persons assessments, or Special Guardianship.
Registered with Social Care Wales.
An up-to-date Enhanced DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service).

Benefits of Working with Vale of Glamorgan Council (Permanent Staff):

As a valued permanent member of our team, you will enjoy a comprehensive benefits package designed to support your well-being and professional growth, which may include:

Generous Pension Scheme: Membership to the Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS).
Competitive Annual Leave: A generous leave allowance, with options to purchase additional days.
