Heathermount School – a specialist day school set in 14 acres of beautiful grounds in Ascot, Berkshire, providing a high-quality education for students aged 5–18 with a primary diagnosis of Autism – is looking for a dedicated and skilled Assistant Site Manager to join their team.
Key Responsibilities
Acting as a key deputy to the Site Manager, taking a proactive leadership role in the day-to-day management of the school estate, including leading and conducting regular site inspections of buildings, grounds, facilities, and school vehicles.
Taking ownership of the planning, coordination, and delivery of routine and reactive maintenance, leading on liaison with contractors, suppliers, and service providers to ensure work is completed safely, efficiently, and to a high standard.
Leading, supervising, and coordinating site staff in the absence of the Site Manager, setting clear expectations and ensuring full compliance with Health & Safety legislation, policies, and best practice.
Taking a lead role in cleaning management, including overseeing contractors, conducting audits, addressing performance issues, and coordinating emergency cleaning as required.
Leading and overseeing inspections and surveys of the grounds, trees, playing fields, and outdoor facilities (including play equipment), ensuring all areas are safe, compliant, and well maintained.
Leading on all operational planning and site coordination for school events, taking full responsibility for site readiness, health and safety, and logistical arrangements.
Taking responsibility for waste management operations and issues and leading on the maintenance, servicing, and repair of all school vehicles.
Deputising fully for the Site Manager in relation to Health & Safety, taking charge of daily safety checks, overseeing risk assessments, ensuring site security, and responding effectively to incidents or emergencies.
Ensuring accurate, timely, and compliant record-keeping for maintenance, inspections, audits, and statutory checks.
Carrying out any additional duties as directed by the School Business Manager, appropriate to the level of responsibility of the role.
Skills and Experience
Relevant facilities management or maintenance qualification.
Health and Safety training (e.g., IOSH, COSHH).
Experience of working in a school or educational environment.
Knowledge of basic maintenance, repairs and site management.
Ability to work proactively and independently.
Experience of site or facilities management in a school or similar setting.
Experience of maintaining records, compliance logs, or reports.
Experience of coordinating school events or out-of-hours activities.
Reliability, flexibility, and the ability to respond to emergencies.
Driving licence holder.

Salary: £31,000 to £35,000 depending on qualifications and experience.
Contract and Hours: Fixed Term for 12 months; Full Time (40 hours per week with the expectation of split shift on occasion).
