Overview:
The Systems/Solution Architect, at this grade, applies technical and professional knowledge, making independent and joint judgments based on proven practices and significant previous experience relating to identifying opportunities, pursuits, and customer engagement. The successful candidate will work directly with the Business Development team, senior leadership, and engineering teams to drive revenue opportunities.
Main responsibilities:
1. The Systems Architect is responsible for collating, defining, and quantifying each opportunity throughout the process, while facilitating the initial phases of contracts to ensure and inform the solution architectures.
2. The Systems Architect must have full working knowledge of a Systems Engineering approach, ISO15288, and be responsible for the proposed bid solution's logical, functional, and physical architectures, as well as defining the proposed engineering strategy required to design and deliver it.
3. Concepts and proposals should demonstrate full awareness of current and future capabilities within the business, where a cost and risk-based approach identifies partnering options and drives concept decision-making.
4. Spearhead the engineering team and systems discipline, representing and leading engineering opportunities that align with our engineering processes and governance framework.
5. As an experienced member of the systems discipline, the Systems Architect will line manage a number of reports daily, as well as technically lead and mentor other engineers. You will actively support pre- and post-contract awareness and champion the implementation of Systems Engineering both internally and externally.
6. Provide proactive and reactive input to engineering and Systems Engineering capability improvements (process, tooling, and resources), actively supporting the development and implementation of improvements.
Experience needed:
* Degree 2.1 (Hons) or higher in a relevant discipline in Engineering or related fields.
* Demonstrable experience of the systems engineering lifecycle.
* Experience with systems architectural design.
* Experience in strategy, planning, and design of complex solutions, either as standalone capability or for integration with other systems.
* Experience in identifying business development growth and development opportunities from internal and external influences.
* Experience with integration strategies, frameworks, and tools.
* Excellent multi-method and tool customer/stakeholder management skills.
* Proactive implementation of a joint discipline and business-aligned approach for engineering solutions.
* Ability to define and realize technical/capability demonstration solutions, optimizing COTS/OTS equipment, and demonstrating to stakeholders.
* Willingness to travel for external engagement with customers and suppliers as needed.
* Experience in ensuring and assuring initial contract phases up to and including the Systems Design Review (Architecture definition).
* Experience in the Defence/Aerospace or safety-regulated environment is advantageous.
* Proven systems engineering techniques, such as modeling, to quantify and capture capability use and employment, resulting in needs definition.
* Hands-on expertise in areas like Command & Control defense systems, sensors, communications, encryption, and capability across land, maritime, and airborne domains.
* Proven line management, technical leadership, and mentoring skills, with experience managing at least 4 engineers.
