We are seeking an enthusiastic and committed professional to join us in the role of Behaviour Support Assistant Assistants in a Specialist SEND Secondary School in Ackworth. The school's education programme is designed to provide pupils with the specialised support they need, going beyond what mainstream schools can offer.

This School's Ackworth site is designed to support pupils in KS3, KS4 and KS5 with severe and complex learning difficulties, including autism and some challenging behaviours. The school has fantastic facilities, and it also accommodates students with additional medical, physical, or sensory impairments.

The site features 23 classrooms and specialised facilities such as a Sensory Room, Outdoor Provision with Sensory Garden, Poly tunnel and Forest School area. There is also a Hydrotherapy Pool and fully equipped hygiene areas along with a fully equipped apartment, encouraging independent living skills. Play/leisure areas have been planned according to the needs of the pupils and to enable them to develop both physically, socially and cognitively.

You will be working with students across the school to support children on a 1:1 and whole class basis. Some of the students need support with personal care and there are some students who display challenging behaviours.

This is a fantastic opportunity for a SEND Teaching Assistant or Carer looking for a flexible and rewarding role in a lovely setting. The role has great potential to become permanent.


Responsibilities

* Have a committed and passionate view of students with SEND
* Carry out medical procedures including administering medication, undertaking specialist feeding programmes, assessing when suctioning is required and carrying out suctioning procedures, emergency tracheotomy procedures including removal and replacement, administering oxygen, ventilation, basic life support, assessing respiratory effort. (These duties are to be undertaken following appropriate training)
* Have the ability to remain emotionally resilient when working with pupils with a range of needs, including life threatening health needs
* Provide particular support for individual pupils with special educational and complex health care needs (including tracheotomy) assisting with their learning activities, providing supervision and care
* Assist with the personal needs of pupils including social, health, physical, hygiene, first aid and welfare matters. This includes toileting, feeding and positioning
* Prepare the classroom and resources for the pupil as directed for lessons and to clear afterwards
* Report to the teacher or line manager any pupil problems or behavioural difficulties in accordance with school policy
* Report to the teacher or line manager on pupil progress and achievements in accordance with school policy
* Assist the teacher or the line manager by contributing as directed to a pupils' individual behaviour/education plan
* Provide or gather accurate routine information to or from parents/carers under the direction of the teacher or line manager
* Provide general support with learning activities appropriate to age and ability, to enable pupils to understand instructions and to ensure they remain on task
* Assist with the daily maintenance of equipment (including medical equipment) and resources through appropriate cleaning and storage
* Assist pupils in using resources e.g. ICT
* Assist with the supervision of the pupil outside of lesson times, including before and after school and at lunchtimes. These duties shall be undertaken within the post holder's contractual hours
* Participate in school visits, assisting with activities as required
* Promote and adhere to a healthy safeguarding culture of open and transparent working, following policy and practice at all times, ensuring safeguarding is at the heart of everything you do and every action is in the best interests of the pupil


Desirable but not essential

* Experience of working in a SEND environment or similar unit/provision
* Team Teach training
* Moving and Handling training
