Engineering Lead Market Risk & Market Data IT
About the Job
The Risk Technology department is responsible for all IT platform requirements of the Risk function (including Market, Credit, and Operational Risk), as well as Market Data interacting with external providers such as Bloomberg and S&P.
Risk Technology forms part of the wider IT department under the CIO and ensures that the technology needs of the Risk function are met in accordance with IT principles in areas such as Tech and Cyber Risk and IT Architecture.
What you'll be doing
The Engineering Lead will play a central role within the Bank's Risk Technology and Market Data team, providing hands on technical leadership across software engineering, system design, and DevOps. The role is responsible for driving high quality development practices, ensuring solutions are secure, reliable, and compliant with internal governance and second line controls.
The role will lead engineering excellence across the full development lifecycle--requirements, design, coding, testing, deployment, automation, and documentation--while supporting the enhancement of Market Risk and Market Data IT platforms. Collaboration with technical and non technical stakeholders is essential to ensure delivery of scalable, efficient, and supportable systems.
Software Engineering & Hands On Development
1. Act as a hands on engineer, actively contributing to design, coding, testing, troubleshooting, and delivering software components within Market Risk and Market Data platforms.
2. Lead development activities across the full SDLC, ensuring high quality, secure, and maintainable code.
3. Perform code reviews, refactoring, and technical optimisation while modelling engineering excellence for the wider team.
4. Champion automation across build, testing, deployment, and environment provisioning, contributing directly to the technical implementation.
Technical Leadership & Engineering Standards
5. Provide technical leadership to guide engineering direction, uphold coding standards, and drive consistent development practices.
6. Lead and influence engineering decisions on architecture, solution design, tooling, and technology adoption.
7. Mentor and coach engineers, fostering skill growth, knowledge sharing, and continuous improvement across the team.
8. Shape and enforce best practices in documentation, maintainability, observability, and operational readiness.
DevOps, CI/CD & Platform Reliability
9. Design, implement, and enhance modern CI/CD pipelines that support fast, reliable, and secure releases.
10. Work closely with teams to embed DevOps principles, ensuring automated quality controls, environment stability, and repeatable deployments.
11. Drive improvements in build pipelines, artefact management, and deployment automation.
Architecture, Technology Strategy & Innovation
12. Collaborate on system and solution architecture to ensure scalability, reliability, performance, and long term maintainability.
13. Evaluate new technologies, frameworks, and tools to enhance engineering productivity and platform capability.
14. Promote the use of AI, ML, and automation to improve code quality, testing, and release efficiency.
Testing & Quality Assurance
15. Implement and maintain automated testing frameworks, including unit, integration, regression, and functional automation.
16. Ensure testing is embedded within CI/CD and collaborate with QA to rapidly resolve defects and improve quality outcomes.
Collaboration, Governance & Stakeholder Engagement
17. Work closely with development teams, Product/Project Managers, Technology Risk, Architecture, and Production Support to align priorities and ensure consistent delivery.
18. Communicate clearly on technical decisions, delivery progress, risks, and dependencies.
19. Ensure all engineering and development practices align with internal governance, compliance requirements, and technology risk standards.
What you'll need to be successful
20. Hands on software development experience using .NET Core or .NET Framework.
21. Experience with web development technologies such as ASP.NET, MVC, Razor, JavaScript frameworks, and Knockout.js.
22. Strong proficiency in scripting languages including PowerShell, Python, Groovy, and Shell.
23. Deep experience with CI/CD tools and technologies such as Jenkins, TeamCity, Git, and Nexus.
24. Knowledge of service communication protocols and messaging technologies such as WCF, gRPC, SignalR, and RabbitMQ.
25. Familiarity with automated testing approaches and integration of testing into CI/CD pipelines.
26. Exposure to AI and machine learning concepts and their application within engineering workflows.
27. Additional programming knowledge in Java, C# and C++ is a plus
Professional Experience
28. Experience in technical roles within investment banking or large scale enterprise environments, ideally including leadership or team guidance responsibilities.
29. Demonstrated experience across the full software development lifecycle: requirements, design, development, testing, deployment, automation.
30. Proven capability in designing, maintaining, and optimising CI/CD and DevOps processes.
31. Experience working within the Risk domain (e.g., Market Risk, Credit Risk) is highly desirable.
32. Ability to work effectively across cross functional teams including Technology Risk, Architecture, Governance, Service Delivery, and Prodution Support
