Buyer - Construction Operations
Location: Birmingham
Salary: £30,000 - £45,000 + Company Vehicle + 5% bonus

My client is a major player in the built environment and support services space, delivering essential projects and services across the UK. Large global business with 100,000 employees globally.
The Role
This role sits within the operational buying team and reports into the buying team lead. It is a fast-paced, hands-on procurement role focused on the purchasing and scheduling of plant and materials to support project and contract delivery across the region. The successful candidate will play an important role in keeping sites running efficiently, ensuring orders are placed accurately and on time, while also supporting supplier relationships, process improvement and value delivery. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys a busy environment, is strong on detail and organisation, and wants to build a long-term career in procurement.
Key Responsibilities
* Procure plant and materials and place orders in line with company procedures, supplier agreements, cost targets, quality standards and required delivery dates.
* Support operational teams by ensuring the right goods are sourced and delivered to site on time, helping keep projects and contracts running smoothly.
* Build strong working relationships with suppliers and internal stakeholders, acting as a reliable procurement contact across the region.
* Attend relevant meetings, including design or project-related discussions, to help steer specifications and buying decisions towards the most commercially advantageous solution.
* Contribute to better procurement performance through cost/value reconciliation, invoice query resolution and continuous improvement of purchasing processes and procedures.
Key Skills & Experience Required
* Procurement or buying experience within construction, materials, plant, building services or a similar operational environment.
* Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage a high volume of orders and work accurately in a busy, deadline-driven setting.
* Good commercial awareness and negotiation skills, with the ability to identify value, manage supplier relationships and support profit improvement.
* Comfortable building relationships with both internal stakeholders and external suppliers, with a proactive and team-oriented approach.
* Ideally working towards or interested in a procurement qualification such as CIPS, with a genuine desire to grow and develop within the function.
