We are seeking an outstanding researcher to join Professor Teuta Pilizota's group at the University of Cambridge, to investigate how physico-chemical forces influence bacterial growth and death. The project focuses on Vibrio natriegens, one of the fastest-growing organisms, and aims to understand the physico-chemical properties of its cytoplasm that may accelerate biochemical reactions.
Research Focus
1. Characterising factors such as pH, osmolytes, crowding, and membrane potential under various conditions.
2. Comparing the cytoplasmic environment of V. natriegens with other bacteria like V. campbellii and E. coli, especially during cell death processes.
3. Investigating the role of the cytoplasmic environment in cell growth and death beyond molecular signaling and regulation.
Candidate Requirements
* PhD (or submitted thesis) in a relevant field.
* Experience in microbiology, biochemistry, or related disciplines preferred.
