Do you have a passion for supporting children with behaviour, emotional regulation, and positive relationships?
Are you a Psychology or Criminology graduate, an experienced TA, or someone with a background in mentoring, counselling or youth work?
Milk Education is recruiting Behaviour Buddies to work in primary schools across South Tyneside, supporting pupils who need extra help managing behaviour and emotions in the classroom.
Ideal for:
1. Psychology Graduates
2. Criminology Graduates
3. Qualified Teaching Assistants (TAs)
4. Counsellors, Mentors and Youth Workers
5. Graduates aspiring to careers in teaching, educational psychology, SEN or mental health
(No previous school experience required — training can be provided: Must have graduated in the last 3 years)
The Behaviour Buddy Role
As a Behaviour Buddy, you will:
6. Provide 1:1 and small-group behaviour support
7. Help pupils develop emotional regulation and coping strategies
8. Support children displaying challenging or disruptive behaviour
9. Promote positive behaviour and engagement with learning
10. Build consistent, trusting relationships with pupils
11. Work closely with class teachers and SEN teams
Behaviour & Social, Emotional and Mental Health Needs You’ll Support
You may work with pupils who experience:
12. Challenging or dysregulated behaviour
13. Difficulties following routines or boundaries
14. Anxiety-related behaviours
15. Attachment needs
16. Low self-esteem and confidence
17. Emotional outbursts or withdrawal
18. Trauma-informed behavioural responses
Support is tailored to each child, helping them feel safe, supported and ready to learn.
