The Opportunity:
We are seeking a Podcast Production Assistant to work on producing episodes of Miniatures, a podcast on the history of everyday life hosted by the School of History, Classics, and Archaeology. The role involves working on pre- and post-production of podcast episodes, including communicating with guests, editing podcast audio, determining the narrative sequencing of podcast episodes, and creating comms/social media content. The post-holder will work in collaboration with the Lead Producer and Co-Hosts of the podcast and will require a high degree of personal initiative, judgement and confidence to work independently and efficiently. The post holder will also require familiarity with the discipline of history. This is a great opportunity for someone who is interested in history, public history, podcasting, and communicating the past to the public.
The post is guaranteed hours (GH) and fixed-term from the 1st September 2025 until the 31st July 2026, for a total of 110 hours only.
The annual salary is at Grade UE06: £34,610 - £39,906 (based on full-time employment). The successful candidate will be appointed on Step 1, £18.96 per hour, plus annual leave allowance. The role will require the post holder to be on campus in Edinburgh on a regular basis.
Your skills and attributes for success:
* Ability to apply knowledge of History as a discipline to determine important themes and information in podcast episodes and their appropriate presentation and publicity.
* Knowledge of how to produce an intelligible and convincing historical narrative (e.g. as obtained from article and/or essay writing experience).
* Confidence with IT systems and willingness to learn new software packages.
* Ability to work independently.
