Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic Band 6 nurse to join our successful Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS) team for 12 months, either as a fixed-term or secondment.

The role of an ERAS nurse is to help develop and improve perioperative care using evidence-based practice. The main aim is to reduce the risk of surgical complications, which in turn helps to reduce Length of Stay (LOS).

The successful candidate will gain experience across various surgical specialties, including orthopaedics, urology, and head and neck, and will be responsible for analyzing data, reports, and attending MDT meetings. You will be supported by a committed team dedicated to holistic patient care, with teamwork being essential.

For this programme to succeed, close collaboration with relevant healthcare professionals is required, making the role both interesting and rewarding.

Please consult your Line Manager before applying for this secondment and review the Trust's Secondment Policy.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will help develop pathways for managing patients admitted for elective surgery under Enhanced Recovery programmes. These pathways should be regularly reviewed in line with audit evidence to ensure standards of care are met.

Working for our organisation

Bedfordshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust provides hospital services to approximately 700,000 residents across Bedfordshire and surrounding areas, across two hospital sites in Bedford and Luton. Both sites offer services such as A&E, obstetrics-led maternity, and paediatrics.

You will join a friendly, high-performing Trust committed to staff wellbeing. As one of the largest NHS Trusts in the region, we offer high-quality training and development opportunities to support your career growth.

Our state-of-the-art facilities place us at the forefront of healthcare. The Trust is dedicated to delivering excellent patient care using the latest clinical knowledge and technology.

Please note that vacancies may close early if sufficient applications are received. We encourage early application. All new staff will undergo a six-month probationary period. Travel between hospital sites may be required.
