We are a co‑educational independent day school for children aged 4 to 16, situated near Petersfield in the South Downs National Park on a stunning site with spectacular views of the rolling Hampshire hills and south across the Solent to the Isle of Wight. Teaching and Learning

* To teach a full timetable, delivering the lessons as required by the Head of Juniors.
* To plan and deliver lessons across all seven areas of the EYFS framework.
* To have an excellent working knowledge of the EYFS.
* To have a commitment to deliver the EYFS curriculum through engaging and creative learning experiences, encouraging child‑based learning where possible.
* To work alongside the other Early Years Staff, particularly the other Reception class teacher, discussing learning activities and sharing practice.
* To prepare and mark work to facilitate positive pupil development.
* To meet the requirements for the assessment and recording of pupils' development.
* To manage your classroom in such a way that it is a stimulating and welcoming environment for the children.


Pastoral

* To develop excellent working relationships with parents.
* To develop and foster the appropriate skills and social abilities to enable the optimum development of children, according to age, ability and aptitude.
* To manage behaviours so that a safe and stimulating learning environment can be created.
* Be an integral part of a team that accepts the collective responsibility for the health, education and welfare of the children in the school, and to abide by Health and Safety regulations.
* Support the school's pastoral system, within the year group, class and with individual pupils.
* Identify any children with particular educational or emotional needs and, where necessary, make provision for them with close liaison with the Learning Development Department.


Wider School Community and Commitments

* To keep informed of current teaching and educational developments through documents, meetings and in‑service courses.
* Organise and take part in school events, Open Days, outings and activities which may take place at weekends or in the evening.
* Lead assemblies on a timetable.
* To work closely with the EYFS team, the Head of Juniors and the Marketing Department to market the EYFS to prospective parents.
* You are expected to assist with the smooth running of the school by attending assemblies, undertaking duties, participating in a programme of extra‑curricular activities and arranging/accompanying day.
* When absent, set appropriate work wherever possible.
* Take part in the Professional Development (Appraisal) scheme.


Additional Responsibilities

As a full‑time teacher at Ditcham Park School, you are employed to take full pastoral and academic responsibility for your class. Your line manager would be a member of the Junior Leadership Team, with ultimate responsibility lying with the Head of Juniors & Headmaster. Movement of teachers between classes is part of a cycle, which can include movement of staff between KS1 and KS2 class teaching and responsibility. This is part of a whole school programme and is for the benefit of the school, pupils and staff as and when it may occur. Significant forward planning is used in managing any class teacher movements between year groups, and this is led by the Head of Juniors. Ditcham Park School supports professional development with allocation of time and money for personal INSET in addition to whole school INSET at the start of the autumn and spring terms. As a school we are very keen to consider, support and implement exciting and progressive new initiatives which are generated by staff. Similarly, as a key member of our vibrant and evolving school, all staff are expected to be positive and adaptable to taking on new initiatives or challenges which are introduced and assigned by the Head of Juniors or Headmaster.

* Has good listening skills and respect for all pupils.
* Has the ability to form relationships and to motivate pupils.
* Has the ability to generate enthusiasm for the work of the department.
* Can demonstrate high standards in the necessary professional competencies required of teachers: subject knowledge and application; classroom management; assessment, recording and reporting students' progress; teaching effectively throughout age and ability range.
* Has confidence to contribute their own ideas and initiatives to the philosophy of the School.
* Is willing to be involved in the wider activities of the School.
* Has a practical understanding of administrative demands.
* Has a commitment to personal and professional development.
