An exciting opportunity has arisen to be part of the Medical Examiner Service at Wrightington Wigan & Leigh Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
We are looking to recruit/appoint 1 Medical Examiner, who is willing to undertake a minimum of 1 PA of Consultants' time (4-hour session, morning or afternoon). There is also a requirement for weekend working on a rota basis. The Medical Examiner post is based at the Royal Albert Edward Infirmary; this is not a remote position.
Applications are invited and welcomed from colleagues in both Primary & Secondary care settings who have a minimum of 5 years post-qualification experience and are GMC Registered. Successful candidates must have completed the online ME Training available on the E-lfh website before starting in the role. Additionally, face-to-face (remote) training is required within 6 months of appointment. The main responsibilities include:
1. Reviewing all non-coronial deaths within both Primary & Secondary Care.
2. Supporting and advising colleagues when discussing proposed causes of death.
3. Working closely with Governance, PALS, Morbidity & Mortality teams.
4. Liaising with H M Coroner & bereaved relatives, where required.
5. Identifying & escalating themes and trends.
6. Improving death certification processes.
