Main Purpose of Role: Lead technical support for shift team, providing guidance and training and ensuring the smooth running of the shift. Work closely with other teams ensuring proper production workflow and maximising production output. Intervene and solve production and quality issues on the day to day production operation. Responsible for the lab in the absence of other members of the Lab Management team. Key Responsibilities: - Take a lead on decision making and organisation of the workflow for the shift period. Act as the key communication point between the Shift Team and the Laboratories Management Team. - Ensure data integrity and production traceability is maintained across all CBL lab systems and processes. - Persue expert knowledge and operation of flowcytometers as required by ST SOPs, aiming to optimise each sort period to achieve benchmark performance and quality metrics. - Ensure the shift tasks are completed and any issues arising are communicated immediately to the Laboratory management. - Identify training requirements and play a leading and supportive role in the development of team members in their individual roles to maximise their performance. Seek input and support from Laboratory Management, especially where objectives are not being met. - Assist the Sorting Lab Manager in staff and team management duties as required. - At all times ensure full compliance with CBL Lab H&S directives, CBL Lab SOPs and policies to allow good laboratory practice and full compliance with the Regulations and Industry Standards. Checking and signing off lab records made by the team, flagging any anomolies to CBL Lab Management - Ensure all functional parts of the lab and equipment are in good operational condition are maintained serviceable and hygienic to perform their specific operations to meet QC requirements and CBL lab QA standards. Communicate immediately where this is not the case. - Cascade production targets to the team and produce effective live feedback to Lab Manager. - Offer appropriate agenda points for the regular shift team update meetings and be confident to explain key performance metrics to the team. - Inform CBL lab management team of any issue, problem or deviation on the CBL lab production operation. Essential Skills: - Good leadership aptitudes essential to pull the team together and ensure they are consistently driving forward - Commitment to the training and development of the lab team to best operational practice - High level of competency and technical capability with lab equipment, prior experience of flow cytometry an advantage - Knowledge of sperm and AI biology and an understanding of key semen sorting factors would be beneficial - Ability to troubleshoot and maintain laboratory equipment to Cogent standards - Highly organised, hard working and prepared to work the hours required to meet the role requirements - Capable of data management and analysis and have a mind set to continuously evaluate and improve current procedures - Confidence with IT interfaces and systems
