Consultant Trauma & Orthopaedic Surgeon (Hip Preservation)

Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust is seeking to appoint a Consultant Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgeon (on a full‑time or part‑time basis) with a specialist interest in young adult hip surgery (to include primary hip and knee replacement but excluding revision joint replacement).
The successful candidate will have had / have planned specialist training in their area of interest and will be encouraged to develop that special interest to complement the other members of the department whilst participating in the provision of Trauma and Orthopaedic services to the population of 500,000.
The candidate should be fellowship trained (or have planned) and have completed CCST. The candidate should have particular expertise in young adult hip surgery and lower limb arthroplasty and trauma, and will have evidence of formal leadership training and quality improvement activity. The successful candidate should also have a research doctorate (PhD/MD) or equivalent (or clear evidence of successful progression towards) and publications in medical referenced journals within the last 3 years.
A multi‑disciplinary team approach to the Trauma and Orthopaedic service provision is being actively developed at Northumbria Healthcare but he/she will be expected to join an acute service at the Northumbria Specialist Emergency Care Hospital and throughout the Trust. Main duties of the job
* 10.25 Programmed Activities of Direct Clinical Care (including Trauma commitments)
* 1.5 Programmed Activities of Supporting Professional Activities
* Participation in the on‑call rota – approximately one in ten trauma clinic provision, one in ten trauma operating including weekends and one in twenty on call nights.
The post holder will:
* Be fellowship trained in Hip Preservation Surgery (hip arthroscopy, pelvic osteotomy, soft tissue injury around hip) and Hip arthroplasty
* Have a strong interest in General Orthopaedic Trauma
* Have a strong interest in research, particularly in hip preservation surgery

Qualifications
* FRCS (Tr and Orth) or equivalent
* Full GMC Registration
* Research doctorate or equivalent, or clear evidence of progression towards
* Clinical training and experience equivalent to that required to gain entry to UK CCT
* Fully registered on the UK GMC's specialist register. Specialist Registrars may apply if within 6 months of CCT at date of application. The appointee will be required to maintain full GMC registration and revalidation and should follow the GMC Code of Good Medical Practice
Experience & Knowledge
* Evidence of recent or pending fellowship training in the specific special interest
* Evidence of advanced formal leadership training (or clear progression towards)
* Experience of audit management
* Experience of supervising SpR's
* Formal training in Clinical Supervision / Train the trainers
