About us
Cloyda is a friendly, family-run residential care home for elderly people. We look after up to 34 residents, some with dementia. We aim to create a homely, safe environment for our residents and all of our staff are well trained and committed to their care.
We require a dedicated and conscientious Deputy Manager to join our friendly team on a full-time basis. We're seeking a caring and compassionate individual who enjoys interacting with the elderly and has the ability to manage a team of Senior Carers, Carers and domestic staff. Candidates must have experience as a Team Leader or Deputy Manager of a Care Home for elderly people. You must be warm and friendly, with a strong work ethic, a positive attitude and a genuine passion for providing our residents with high quality care and support. The successful candidate will be self-motivated, well-organised and able to work both independently and as part of a team. You will be fully supported by our Registered Manager and Operations Manager.

Hours: 40 hours per week
Days: Monday, Wednesday, Friday 8am-4pm, Tuesday 10am-6pm, Saturday 9-5pm
Job Overview
Note – In addition to these functions, employees are required to carry out such duties as may reasonably be required.
* To positively support the Registered Manager in providing leadership to the administration, care, catering, housekeeping, laundry and maintenance functions of the service
* To deputise for the function of the Registered Manager during their absence, while, at all times, supporting the decisions made by the Registered Manager
* To manage the service in accordance with standards agreed with the Registered Manager, legislative requirements, relevant regulations and in line with accepted best practice, and within the financial plans agreed from time-to-time with Cloyda Ltd.
* To fulfil the expectation of Cloyda Ltd., for all employees to give their personal best and strive for continuous improvement to ensure that the highest standards of care and service are delivered to all people that use our service.
* To bear in mind the overall objectives of Cloyda, namely that people who use our services will be encouraged to maintain independence and choice in a homely environment which promotes excellent customer relationships.
* To be responsible for the wellbeing, i.e., the physical, emotional, and social needs of the people who use our services, in a caring, kind, and respectful manner, always preserving dignity and self-respect.
Role- specific Duties
The Deputy Manager's responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
Care
* Ensure residents are at the heart of the care delivery and their wishes and preferences enhance their wellbeing.
* Be responsible for promoting and protecting the welfare of those individuals supported by the service.
* Ensuring all recording systems and organisational documentation are of a high standard and kept up to date.
* To participate fully in the overall care of people who use our services.
* To use an appropriate level of clinical skills to monitor the health of our residents, recognise clinical/physical changes and take appropriate and prompt action in seeking medical support.
* To audit and support Senior Carers to ensure care plans are person centred, up to date and reflective of each residents' individual needs.
* To uphold the residents' confidentiality, privacy, and dignity and assist the care team in doing so.
* To support the Manager with the completion of the DoLS applications, DoLS matrix and maintain all associated documentation.
* Support the Manager with organising and holding meetings with Residents, families and staff members.
Human Resources
* The efficient and effective day-to-day management of the human resources involved in providing care and ensuring that the required standards are maintained.
* To act for the Registered Manager and provide administrative cover as and when required.
* Oversee the duty rota monthly in advance, ensuring the correct number of people and skill mix as needed.
* Receive and approve/decline Annual Leave requests to ensure full staff shift coverage.
* To assist as necessary in the recruitment of personnel in consultation with the Registered Manager and according to policy
* To carry out appraisals and supervisions identifying training needs and undertake personal development meeting sessions as requested by the Registered Manager.
* To deploy the team efficiently in relation to care duties to be covered, by assisting the Registered Manager in setting up and controlling the rota.
* To provide support and direction for all levels of care team members, as well as colleagues belonging to the housekeeping, activities and maintenance departments.
* To act in accordance with the Skills for Care Code of Conduct for Healthcare Support Workers and Adult Social Care Workers in England at all times and be a role model for colleagues.
* To undertake on-call requirements as agreed with the Registered Manager.
Medication
* To follow medication administration guidelines, complete documentation, maintain correct ordering, storage and disposal procedures. To complete the Proxy Ordering process.
* Assist the team to develop person centred approach to medication administration.
* To report all medication incident/errors immediately to the Manager, and to the GP or other Health Professional.
* To audit MARS sheets and review audits completed by senior carers and support them to develop action plans to address issues identified.
Health and Safety
* To assist in the maintenance of a safe and healthy working environment by ensuring adherence to Health and Safety policies, procedures and regulations.
* Undertake audits according to the service/maintenance planner and support the completion of any resulting actions.
* To ensure Infection Control procedures are adhered to at all times and to support the Unit Managers in reviewing practices on their units and analysing infections and practices to reduce infection rates.
* To ensure COSHH regulations are adhered to for storage and use of chemicals.
* To ensure all accidents and incidents are documented and reported to the Registered Manager, maintaining RIDDOR reporting requirements as requested.
* To ensure fire exits are free from obstruction at all times.
* To ensure compliance with CQC and all other statutory requirements.
Working with Others
* Develop effective working relationships with all employees within the service.
* Work in cooperation with members of the multidisciplinary teams to maximise opportunities for people in the service.
* Obtain feedback from residents, visitors and team members to inform any changes required and ensure that the care offered reflects the residents' needs and preferences.
* To arrange and support the orientation and induction programmes for new team members, in collaboration with the Manager and other relevant colleagues.
Personal and Professional Development:

* Attend statutory training and any other training as directed by management
* Obtain the relevant qualifications required to work in the deputising role, e.g. management qualification commensurate with the role
* To maintain skills at a current level and undertake such training and development as may be required to maintain currency of practice

* Understand the regulatory framework that governs the service, including the role of the CQC and its requirements.
