Administrator and Health Care Support Worker

Job Summary

The post holder will work to provide the highest standards of patient care and perform competencies as required as a Receptionist, Administrator, and Health Care Support Worker. The successful applicant must be prepared to travel throughout all of our clinics across Northwest. You will be required to work 4 shifts per week Monday to Saturday, 9.5 hours per day, on a fixed‑term contract of 1 year to deliver a supportive and non‑judgemental service to patients and their supporters attending NUPAS clinics. The applicant will undertake and achieve training specific to the role, including the care certificate, and will support with relevant clinical procedures once appropriate training has been provided.


Responsibilities

* Assist colleagues during the sensitive examination and treatment of patients within the department, treating them with respect and always promoting their dignity and comfort.
* Chaperone as required with procedures, recognising when a patient's condition deteriorates and escalating as required.
* Work in a caring, professional, and co‑operative way with patients, their significant others, and colleagues.
* Undertake pregnancy tests and record results as required.
* Stock clinical areas and maintain the clinical/administrative environment to a high standard.
* Order and receive stock as necessary.
* Ensure infection prevention policies are always adhered to.
* Respect the confidentiality of information both on and off duty.
* Understand and apply principles of confidentiality, effective verbal and written communication and proper documentation.
* Provide theatre support as required.
* Identify and elevate any risk or safeguarding concerns to senior colleagues and actively seek to reduce or eliminate those concerns.
* Ensure clinical areas are set up, stocks are unpacked and rotated, and work areas are cleaned and restocked after use.
* Undertake relevant training in medication management and handle medications in line with standard operating procedures.
* Handle potential contact with bodily fluids and blood samples in accordance with safe working practices.
* Wear appropriate PPE and comply with COSHH, health and safety, hazardous waste, and infection control procedures.
* Deliver consistent, patient‑centred, caring, confidential, and professional reception and administration services.
* Process all patient case notes in a consistent and timely fashion in line with monthly invoicing requirements.
* Liaise with clinical and medical staff regarding patient and medical queries.
* Co‑ordinate patient treatment pathways throughout time in the clinic, and facilitate the delivery of prescriptions and legal documents.
* Prepare and complete patient notes.
* Undertake remote administration duties, referrals to external providers or NHS hospitals, and cashiering duties.
* Support patients to make a right choice.
* Undertake any other duties and responsibilities commensurate with the level and responsibilities of the post.
* Work in harmony with all other personnel and communicate openly and courteously with patients and colleagues.
* Undertake any necessary training to fulfil duties and responsibilities.
* Ensure full compliance with Information Governance, data protection, confidentiality, and information security.


Qualifications


Essential

* Level 2 qualification (e.g., GCSE Grade A‑C, NVQ2) in a health‑related subject or Business Administration, or a good standard of general education to GCSE level. Will be expected to meet the Care Certificate standards within 12 weeks of commencing employment.
* Support a woman's right to request an abortion.
* Pro‑choice approach to reproductive and sexual healthcare.
* Willingness to have Hepatitis B vaccinations if not already immunised.
* Recent reception and general clerical work experience or recent Healthcare Assistant experience.
* Experience communicating effectively with people in various situations.
* Understanding of the Data Protection Act and code of confidentiality.
* Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Word, Excel, Outlook.
* Positive attitude, ability to act on feedback, and ability to praise and support others.
* Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in English, both verbal and written.
* Good interpersonal and accurate keyboard skills, general office skills, ability to prioritise own workload, use initiative within defined parameters, deal with the public, work as part of a team and independently.
* Positive non‑judgemental approach and pro‑choice essential.
* Willingness to undertake relevant training and offer flexibility of working to meet needs of the service.
* Ability to meet travel requirements of the role.


Desirable

* Care Certificate.


Experience

* Recent reception or general clerical work experience, or recent Healthcare Assistant experience.
* Experience of communicating effectively with people in various situations.
* Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Word, Excel, Outlook.
* Ability to challenge poor behaviour and role‑model good behaviour.
