NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) is one of the largest healthcare systems in the United Kingdom, employing approximately 40,000 staff across a wide range of clinical and non-clinical professions and roles. The role:

To help provide a professional clinical photography service for NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde, and to support the delivery of high-quality patient care in a safe and secure environment. This post is peripatetic and the post holder will be required to provide a weekly cross-cover photography service from any NHSGGC base according to the clinical needs of the service. The post-holder will work as part of the ophthalmic imaging team within Medical Illustration Services, delivering an unsupervised Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) across the sites. To undertake non-clinical photographic activity, such as PR photography and staff portraiture, and provide assistance, administrative and image management support to staff in all areas of Medical Illustration Services.


Duration, Location, and Working Pattern:

* An excellent opportunity has opened for an Optical Coherance Tomographer (OCT) / Assistant Photography Practitioner to join our established team of photographers, videographers, and graphic designers within one of the UK's largest Medical illustration Services
* This role will be based at Gartnavel General Hospital
* The shift pattern for this post is 5 out of 7 days a week


Key responsibilities:


Ophthalmic imaging – to undertake OCT and routine protocol-driven ophthalmic imaging of patients requested by healthcare professionals for clinical assessment, records, teaching, publication and research

* Obtain relevant patient demographics in accordance with local protocols and obtain patient consent
* Carry out OCT and routine ophthalmic imaging within scope of practice on patients referred from across all ophthalmic services
* Ensure technical image failure rate does not exceed 10%
* Prepare designated rooms for imaging ensuring compliance with service protocols and health and safety
* Ensure equipment stored and cleaned according to local protocols


Secure storage of ophthalmic images

* Upload images from the main capture system to GGC-wide database so images available for viewing via Clinical Portal
* Maintain a register of camera/PC failure and take appropriate action, referring to senior staff as required


Administration

* To undertake clinic administration and manage own workload of patients
* To maintain associated records to high quality standards and to assist in clinical audits
* To ensure a safe-working environment, reporting any risks or equipment faults accordingly
* To work within relevant legislation, for example, local policies and codes of professional conduct; ensure patient confidentiality at all times


Other

* To undertake routine, clinical studio-based photography within scope of practice
* To support and assist clinical photographers as required (image management)
* To undertake non-clinical photography duties, such as PR photography
* To undertake administrative duties to support all areas of the service

Knowledge, training, qualifications and/or experience required to do the job:


Essential

* HND in photography or equivalent qualification / ophthalmic imaging experience
* Previous experience working within health / social care environments (desirable)
* Basic working knowledge of PC /Apple Macintosh systems and associated software
* Good interpersonal and communication skills
* Good level of manual dexterity
* Demonstrable interest in imaging in health care
* Committed to personal professional development and further study/education in specialist area
* Problem solving, time management and organisational skills
* Flexible approach to covering service sites across NHS GGC
* Full clean driving license
