Business Intelligence Developer – Royal Berkshire NHS Foundation Trust

Contract: Permanent | Hours: Full time – 37.5 hours per week | Location: Reading, United Kingdom | Salary: £47,810 – £54,710 per annum (Yearly) | Closing date: 02/12/2025 23:59


Job Overview

The Business Intelligence Developer (BI Developer) is a key member of the Digital Data & Technology (DDaT) Development team, adding value for patients by improving and developing information services across the Trust and the wider health and care system.


Principal Responsibilities

* Support the business intelligence and information function to drive strategic decision‑making across Statistics & Planning, Benchmarking & Care Quality, Performance & Quality, Finance & Income Reporting, Activity & Cost, Operational Efficiency & Reporting.
* Guide and enhance operational teams’ understanding of intelligence and insights, supporting informatics leads and principal analysts to collaborate with clinicians and operational teams.
* Support clinicians and managers in interpreting information and promote a culture of good data quality and effective use of information.
* Maintain full working knowledge of the Trust’s information systems, ensuring that any changes impacting analyses are incorporated.
* Identify innovative ways of continuous improvement within BI datasets with the Business Intelligence Lead.
* Maintain an in‑depth knowledge of the full RBH data model and in‑house programming and presentation standards.
* Produce and maintain routine information content using Trust information systems to meet Trust and NHS requirements and deadlines.
* Liaise with Trust information users to understand their requirements and advise on appropriate analysis and presentation.
* Work closely with colleagues to triangulate activity, finance and workforce plans.
* Support the team’s contribution to integrated performance reports published to the Trust Board and system oversight.
* Proactively identify patterns and signals in data sets and distil actionable information for clinicians and operational teams.
* Utilise BI tools (SQL, Power BI, R) to deliver analytics and intelligence ensuring all data products meet best practice.
* Provide analytical support to transformation programmes and pathway initiatives.
* Communicate across the health and care system on sensitive, complex issues, positively challenging consensus when insight conflicts with expected outcomes.


Experience and Qualifications

Essential criteria

* High proficiency in SSRS.
* High proficiency in BI tools – SQL, Power BI, Tableau.

Desirable criteria

* Experience with DWH data flow.
* Knowledge of the NHS Data Dictionary and NHS performance indicators.
