Approved Premises Worker - Graduate / Security / Probation Opportunity
Location: Reading (2 Southcote Road, RG30 2AA)
Pay: £16.39 p/h PAYE / £21.59 Umbrella (enhanced night & weekend rates)
Hours: 37 per week (rolling rota including nights & weekends)
Type: 6 months (with possibility of extension)

RSR Justice, a specialist recruitment provider to the criminal justice sector, is recruiting Approved Premises Workers on behalf of the Probation Service in Reading.
Whether you're a recent graduate, a security professional, or have experience in probation/criminal justice, this role offers a rewarding opportunity to support residents in an Approved Premises setting - helping to manage risk, promote rehabilitation, and maintain a safe environment.
What you'll do:
Supervise and support residents, ensuring safety and rule compliance
Carry out building checks, monitor CCTV, and maintain curfews
Respond calmly to incidents and challenging behaviour
Conduct room searches, support medication routines, and assist with inductions
Be the key contact point during night shifts and emergencies
Maintain accurate records and incident reports
Who we're looking for:
We welcome applications from people with a variety of backgrounds:
🎓 Graduates - Criminology, Psychology, Sociology, Social Work, Policing, or related fields (risk, safeguarding, mental health, substance misuse, rehabilitation).
🛡️ Security or frontline staff - Security guards, housing/homelessness services, care & support roles, youth/community work.
⚖️ Probation/justice experience - Former AP staff, probation services officers, or those with criminal justice system exposure.
You'll be:
Reliable, observant, and calm under pressure
Comfortable working varied schedules (including nights & weekends)
Motivated to support rehabilitation and build a career in criminal justice
