We are partnered with a fast growing UK based education technology business building modern school management and data platforms used by thousands of schools and trusts. The mission is to improve the day to day working lives of school staff by reducing admin burden, simplifying complex processes and turning data into clear and actionable insight, with a genuine focus on creating healthier and happier working lives.
About the role
They have built the MVP and the backend foundations are largely in place, but there is a clear gap in front end resource. This hire will join the Workflows area as a front end leaning full stack engineer and become the front end SME for the product, taking existing pages and elevating them with better usability, accessibility and UI quality, starting with the basics and progressively moving into more complex functionality. You will still stay close to the Node and AWS serverless services that power the product, but your day to day will lean heavily toward TypeScript and React, partnering closely with Product and Engineering leadership to ship high impact improvements.
Responsibilities
* Work closely with Product and Engineering leadership to solutionise feature requests and improve the product experience
* Take ownership of front end standards across the Workflows area, becoming the go to person for UI, accessibility and usability
* Review existing pages and redesign or refactor where needed to improve clarity, consistency and user journeys
* Build new front end functionality on top of existing services, starting with simpler workflows then progressing into more complex areas
* Contribute to an ambitious roadmap through consistent delivery
* Produce clear technical documentation, including diagrams where useful
* Drive strong automated test coverage for new features to ensure reliability and maintainability
* Play a leadership role in code reviews and pair programming, mentoring others toward excellence
About you
* Strong experience building modern front end applications with React and TypeScript
* Confident improving UX and UI quality, with a practical approach to accessibility and usability best practices
* Full stack mindset with experience integrating front end applications with Node based services and APIs
* Strong software engineering fundamentals and best practices such as SOLID and DRY
* Experience working with REST APIs in a service oriented environment
* Comfortable working with AWS in a product environment and able to collaborate effectively around serverless services such as Lambda, API Gateway, SQS and EventBridge
* A proactive problem solver who can balance quality, delivery, and pragmatism
* Strong communication skills and enjoys collaborating with Product and Engineering stakeholders
* Experience improving design systems or component libraries
* Familiarity with agile delivery methods such as Scrum
* Experience with Docker and containerisation
* Knowledge of clean code, refactoring, domain driven design and test driven development
