Fair Ways is a leading children’s services charity based in the Solent, delivering fostering, education, residential and family services. Each year we care for over 400 children, families, young people and vulnerable adults. We are a team dedicated to making a positive change in the lives of the people in our care.
Position: Senior Support Worker
We are recruiting a Senior Support Worker to join our team at the residential children’s home on Portchester Road in Portchester. The home accommodates up to five children aged 12‑18, providing a structured, homely and nurturing environment to support them as they transition into adulthood.
Responsibilities
* Leadership and Support: Assist the Team Leader with handovers and shift planning, and oversee the shift in the Team Leader’s absence, ensuring all required daily tasks are completed accurately.
* Line Management and Guidance: Line‑manage a small number of direct reports, offering reflective supervision, guidance and support as part of effective professional development.
* Building Respectful Relationships: Maintain safe and respectful relationships with children, ensuring professional boundaries in line with best practice.
* Active Participation: Plan and execute a variety of enriching activities—crafts, outdoor play, learning opportunities—to create an enjoyable and engaging home environment.
* Promoting Positive Lifestyles: Model and educate on maintaining a clean, tidy and safe environment, supporting children in developing healthy habits.
* Trauma‑Informed Practice: Use RiiSE training to deliver trauma‑informed responses, applying therapeutic and, when appropriate, physical interventions during times of crisis.
* Child Protection: Manage any child protection issues through effective reporting in line with home policies, in partnership with senior leadership and external agencies.
Qualifications
* Hold or be working toward a relevant qualification, such as NVQ Level 3 Diploma in Childcare.
* Demonstrable experience working with children and/or young people.
* Good knowledge of child protection and safeguarding.

Position Details
The role is full‑time and permanent, with a rolling rota following a 2 on/4 off shift pattern and an average of four sleeps in any eight‑week period. All candidates must hold a full driving licence; each home provides unit vehicles as the first option. An enhanced Disclosure (DBS) will be required, with the cost paid by Fair Ways.
