SCUK Product Development Specialist | 9-12 month FTC

Within the SCUK Marketing and Innovation team, and reporting to the Product Development Manager, this exciting opportunity supports the development of new products and services, helps manage and evolve the existing portfolio, and drives the delivery of commercial objectives across a range of channels.
The role takes an active part in shaping product strategy, working with senior stakeholders to define and deliver objectives that result in a class-leading proposition and further strengthen SCUK's market-leading position in motor finance.
Working closely with teams across SCUK and the wider Santander Group, this role offers broad exposure to the business and a unique opportunity to contribute to its ongoing success and future direction.
Responsibilities will include:
Agree both strategic priorities and day-to-day operational activity with line management to ensure actions are aligned to the organisation's broader goals and objectives, including management of the existing portfolio and planning the ongoing governance and oversight.
Achieve objectives set with line management in respect of delivering commercial goals, identifying distribution channels and actioning activity to maximise each opportunity.
Establish and maintain effective working relationships within the SCUK Marketing and innovation department, across other SCUK business functions, and with OEM partners, Dealer partners and third-party suppliers, including building strong relationships with other DCB countries to engage with and share knowledge of new and existing products and services.
Within the product development framework established by the organisation, work with line management to identify opportunity and develop products/ services that deliver good customer outcomes, whilst also optimising sales volume and profitability.
Support line management to manage existing products and services ensuring ongoing compliance with regulatory requirements and the needs of Consumer Duty. Assist in managing the development of new products and services ensuring compliance with the organisation's governance structure as well as planning the ongoing monitoring of those products and services to ensure they perform as expected.
Working in conjunction with line management, closely manage and document all risks associated with the development of new product and the ongoing oversight of existing products. Ensure a holistic approach to risk management from product development and inception, to distribution, through live agreement/policy until end of contract. This includes all aspects of the product fulfilment including suppliers, distributors, customers and internal business function.
Adhere to company policies and processes relating to personal conduct and the effective management of material risk. Ensure that products are developed and delivered in line with the organisation's values of Simple, Personal and Fair, and that they meet the requirements of Consumer Duty. Support line management in ensuring all products and services are subject to appropriate governance and continue to meet the organisation's required standards.
Ensure all activity is carried out in line with SCUK's governance framework and regulatory business principles, including the delivery of good customer outcomes. Adhere to company policies and processes relating to personal conduct and the effective management of material risk, and support line management in ensuring all products and services continue to meet required governance standards. Support the Product Oversight Committee by completing relevant analysis and acting as Secretary to the Chair.
Deal with or escalate any identified risks in relation to Santander Consumer risk policies and/or legislative and regulatory guidelines in accordance with the Santander UK group risk framework.
Provide accurate, timely and insightful data analysis to support product development, portfolio management and governance activity. Deliver clear and meaningful analysis and MI to inform decision-making by senior stakeholders and governance forums, including the identification of trends, risks and opportunities.
Undertake market, competitor and product research to support the development and optimisation of customer-focused propositions. Translate insight from internal and external sources into clear, actionable recommendations that inform product strategy and commercial decision-making.
Secretary and participate within Sub-committees, providing key MI analysis to understand threshold triggers and reasoning.
Manage and maintain the upkeep of the Product Catalogue to ensure accuracy for audit purposes.
What we're looking for:
Experience working within motor-related financial services, with a sound working knowledge of products commonly offered in the market.
Demonstrates commercial awareness, with the ability to understand key drivers of profitability and business performance.
Is aware and familiar of end-to-end product development protocols and has an appreciation of all phases of the delivery cycle from research through development to launch
Experience of working in an environment requiring engagement with multiple internal and external stakeholders.
An appreciation of the marketing mix, the importance of product and promotion and the differences that the B2B, B2C and B2B2C channels present
Ability to produce clear, well-structured documentation and presentations, including business cases, requirements, briefs and stakeholder materials.
Awareness of legal, regulatory and compliance considerations, including familiarity with the principles of the FCA's Treating Customers Fairly and Consumer Duty.
Demonstrates a good understanding of the wider market sector, with strong interpersonal skills and the confidence to engage with senior stakeholders.
Proven ability to negotiate and influence both internally and externally
Experience supporting governance forums or committees, including preparation of analysis, MI or documentation is desirable.
Experience conducting market, competitor or customer research to support product development or proposition design is desirable.
Familiarity with working within a large group structure (e.g. wider banking or financial services groups) is desirable.
Experience working with OEMs, dealer networks or third-party suppliers is desirable.
