The Role The primary purpose of Chief Technology Officer role is to lead and shape our technology and innovation strategy that will enable QinetiQ to continue to grow in a dynamic environment across a broad range of capabilities. With a particular emphasis on leading and evolving our digital engineering capability, this role will be accountable for developing our technology and innovation strategy with our customers and external institutions to provide a tangible roadmap for delivery, ensuring we remain a differentiator in the market. Key Accountabilities Of The Chief Technology Officer Accountable to the Chief Growth Officer and in support of delivering the company strategy: Lead the development and implementation of the Group technology, innovation and digital engineering capability strategy, partnering across the Growth function to inform capability development as part of the ISP and Strategic Workforce Planning process. Lead the development and implementation of the company innovation strategy implementing best-in-class process standards and driving improvements in quality and efficiency. Support the development of compelling investment / business cases up to Group CEO and CFO, driving technological innovation wherever possible. Relationship management and development with relevant individuals across strategic customers, partners, suppliers, academic institutions and research bodies focused predominantly within the UK Sectors markets, utilising US & Australia Sector relationships for strategic growth opportunities. Development of approved business cases; new offerings created and taken to market; appropriate spread of business cases across technology horizons and capabilities. Development of technical capabilities in line with company growth aspirations Business case development and support, including market analysis, design of value propositions, and go-to-market strategies. Qualifications Essential experience & qualifications for the Chief Technology Officer : Able to lead successful teams in a technical / technological / innovation orientated role in a multi-national organisation; driving company and team performance in the research, defence, aerospace, technology, information and / or security markets over multiple years. Proven experience of working and leading within a technology rich sector and industrial background Worked/working in senior roles within the Australian, UK or US defence or security sectors with strong evidence of understanding of innovative commercial approaches and influencing key external and internal stakeholders to drive sustained performance and growth. Experience of supporting sustainable capability development plans utilising external partners, academia and research institutes Degree qualified in a relevant field, e.g. science or engineering, with advanced business management qualification(s) desirable, e.g. MBA.
