Senior Electrical Engineer – Environment Agency

Key Responsibilities
* Provide technical engineering leadership across high, medium, low and extra‑low voltage electrical systems.
* Manage, develop and maintain electrical engineering standards, safety rules and control system guidelines for assets such as pumping stations, water management and flood defence structures.
* Deliver competency and skills guidance for all employees working with electrical equipment and systems.
* Support the Technical Authority and deliver on the organisation’s net‑zero commitments and asset safety objectives.
* Hold national incident response duties within normal hours or out‑of‑hours as required.
Required Experience & Skills
* Working knowledge of Electricity at Work regulations, BS 7671 and IET wiring regulations.
* Experience with control systems, IEC 61508, IEC 62061, BS EN 13489, and telemetry/SCADA.
* Knowledge of high and low voltage generation and distribution systems.
* Proficient in developing and delivering safe systems of work, risk assessments, method statements.
* Experience testing, isolation and proving of high and low voltage systems.
* Understanding of risk‑based electrical maintenance and reliability systems.
* Drafting and publishing electrical policy, instructions and guidance.
* Excellent teamwork, communication and work‑management skills.
Professional Requirements
* UK driving licence.
* Registered Chartered Engineer with the UK Engineering Council, or evidence of working toward registration within 12 months.
* Current membership of a recognised engineering institution.
Work Environment
* Hybrid role with a base location near the candidate’s home.
* Some travel and overnight duties may be required.
* Incident management role included in the development plan.
