Midwife Clinical Educator

As the Clinical Midwifery Educator, you will support the quality of the clinical learning environment for midwifery staff and learners within the Women and Children's division by providing clinical support, educational input and development activities for registered midwives, apprentices, and students. You will encourage the development of a learning culture where both education and lifelong learning are seen as integral to clinical practice and will positively contribute to the development of the workforce and support and enable staff to provide safe and effective maternity care.
Main duties of the job
To support staff and learners with their individual and Trust learning needs. To assist departmental managers in ensuring that all Trust Mandatory Training requirements are met. To support the achievement of CNST safety action 8 requirements. To work with departmental managers to prepare placement areas to support a quality learning environment, this will include facilitating teaching and support sessions. To support facilitation of Maternity Mandatory training days. Work with senior staff, practice development midwife, supervisors and assessors to ensure all new staff and learners receive a robust induction and orientation to the work area. To work closely with the Risk and Governance Lead and the matrons to assist in completion of education and actions relating to serious incident and moderate incident investigations. Ensure Trust policies are adhered to by all staff and report any non-compliance as necessary. To contribute to the development of policies and guidelines where applicable. Support the appraisal process and any associated training and/or performance management processes of supervisors, assessors and practice educators in collaboration with the individual's line manager. Act as a professional role model and provide leadership to junior members of staff and learners.
Qualifications/training and professional development
* Registered Nurse, Midwife registered with the NMC
* Undertaken Assessor training such as Mentorship or Practice Education
* Degree in relevant field
* Post-graduate Certificate in Education or equivalent
Experience
* Post-registration clinical experience
* Experience of working with non-medical learners including students and apprentices in an acute setting
* Experience of teaching within a formal setting
* Knowledge of coaching models of mentorship
Skills, abilities and knowledge
* Ability to work autonomously setting own targets and measuring performance against these targets
* Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
* Negotiation and persuasion skills
* Accurate documentation with attention to detail
* Knowledge of pre-registration Health Sciences programmes and professional bodies (NMC and HCPC) standards relating to education
* Ability to use a variety of presentations skills to engage with individuals with a multitude of learning styles
