Job Purpose

To make a leading contribution to the project “Topology Of Algebras” working with Rachael Boyd at the University Of Glasgow and Richard Hepworth‑Young at the University Of Aberdeen. This project is funded by a Leverhulme Trust Research Project Grant and is centred on applying known techniques from topology to the study of algebras. It builds on the work of Boyd, Hepworth‑Young, and their collaborators, which can be found on our homepages: R. Boyd and R. Hepworth‑Young.

Applicants are expected to have research experience in one or more of the following areas: algebraic topology, homological algebra, representation theory of algebras, or diagram algebras.


Main Duties And Responsibilities

* Take a leading role in planning and conducting research in accordance with project deliverables and group strategy.
* Document research output including analysis, interpretation of data, maintaining records and databases, drafting reports and papers.
* Establish and maintain your research profile and reputation and that of the University of Glasgow/School/Research Group, including publishing internationally refereed papers and enhancing research impact.
* Present work at international and national conferences, internal and external seminars, colloquia and workshops.
* Lead in identifying potential funding sources and developing proposals for internal and external funding.
* Develop and maintain collaborations within the research group and wider community.
* Lead team/group meetings, seminars and workshops to enhance the knowledge and culture of the School/College.
* Supervise, mentor and train undergraduate and postgraduate students and less experienced members of the project team.
* Perform administrative tasks related to the activities of the research group and School, including budgets and expenditure.
* Contribute to teaching activities such as tutorials and lectures as assigned.
* Keep up to date with current knowledge and recent advances in the field.
* Engage in personal, professional and career development to enhance specialist and transferable skills.
* Undertake any other reasonable duties as assigned.
* Contribute to the university’s international profile in line with strategy.
* Survey the research literature and environment, understand project challenges and develop a suitable research strategy.


Knowledge, Qualifications, Skills, And Experience


Essential Qualifications

A1: PhD (or equivalent) with a track record of emerging independence.

A2: Up‑to‑date knowledge of algebraic topology, homological algebra, representation theory of algebras, or diagram algebras.

A3: Knowledge of project‑specific theories and techniques.


Essential Skills

C1: Proven ability to deliver quality outputs timely.

C2: Ability to demonstrate independence in project objectives, design, analysis and funding pursuit.

C3: Appropriate workload, time, project and budget management skills.


Desirable Skills

D1: Excellent interpersonal skills, team working and a collegiate approach.


Essential Experience

E1: Adequate depth of research experience, typically postdoctoral, appropriate to early career researcher.

E2: Evidence of an emerging record of presentation and publication in quality journals/conferences.

E3: Experience in undertaking independent research.


Desirable Experience

F1: Experience of making a leading contribution in academic activities.

Salary and Benefits

Salary grade 7, £41,064 – £46,049 per annum.

Full‑time position for up to 3 years with relocation assistance where appropriate. 41 days leave, pension, benefits and discount packages. Flexible working available.
