The Medical Day Unit at Singleton is looking for an enthusiastic and experienced Registered Nurse, to join the team. The unit provides a comprehensive day case service for diagnostic interventions and treatment with patients being referred from multiple locations, including from urgent and emergency care services, community services such as virtual wards and GP’s and internally from within the hospitals. The patients are from a variety of specialities including general medicine, surgery and Oncology and haematology and treatments are vast and varied. The unit is pivotal in its role to support admission avoidance by providing timely access for patient reviews and treatments. It is a fast paced busy environment with a small nursing and medical team and we are looking for an efficient and effective, forward-thinking individuals to join us.
Main duties of the job
Administer Intravenous Medication.
Transfuse Blood Products.
Phlebotomy and cannulation.
Pre- and post-care for patients undergoing diagnostic interventions.
Small intestine hydrogen breath test - SIBO.
Insert urethral catheter and perform pregnancy testing.
Insert nasogastric tube.
Medical Emergencies occurring on site.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Day case service for diagnostic interventions and treatments. Liaising closely with other departments and specialities within the Health Board.
Administrating intravenous infusions - Gastroenterology Biologics, Dermatology Biologics, potassium, magnesium and iron. Transfusing blood products as requested. Skills required, intravenous competent, cannulation and phlebotomy.
Preparing patients for interventions eg. Biopsies, Endoscopic Ultra Sound Scan, Paracentesis, Peg/Rig insertion, Portacath insertion/removal etc. Caring for patients post inventions, following the care plan to enable a nurse led discharge.
Hydrogen Breath Test, test to rule out small intestinal bacteria overgrowth or lactose intolerance.
Urethral catheterisation and pregnancy testing, pre nuclear medicine scan.
Nasal gastric tube insertion, for community based patients.
Support numerous clinics which are hosted on the unit, pleural clinic, intrathecal pump clinic, asthma clinic, Consultant hot clinic, vascular access clinic and BBV clinic.
Support site and medical team, with all Medical Emergencies that occur on site.
