At Tata Technologies we make product development dreams a reality by designing, engineering and validating the products of tomorrow for the world’s leading manufacturers. Due to our continued growth we are now recruiting for a Automotive Test Engineer to be based at our office in Warwick.
Our Embedded Systems Solutions department (ESS) encompasses all activities outlined under the Automotive SPICE (ASPICE) process framework, including systems engineering, software engineering, coding, and all levels of functional testing. Beyond core development, ESS also integrates critical supporting processes such as project management, risk assessment, functional safety, and cybersecurity, ensuring compliance with ASPICE standards and delivering reliable, secure, and high-quality embedded systems & solutions.
The Role:
We are seeking a highly skilled Automotive Test Automation Engineer to join our Validation & Verification team, with strong hands-on expertise in Battery Management Systems (BMS) and EV Charging domains. You will design, develop, and maintain sophisticated test automation frameworks and Hardware-in-the-Loop (HiL) environments, leveraging Tracertronic ECU-TEST, Vector CANoe with EVSE Toolkit, and National Instruments platforms. A defining aspect of this role is leading the adoption of Behavior-Driven Development (BDD) for automotive test scenarios — authoring test specifications in Gherkin format, driving test generation from requirements, and executing them on HiL benches within GitLab CI/CD pipelines.
Area of Responsibility
1. Architect, develop, and maintain a scalable test automation framework for BMS and EV Charging ECU validation, integrating Tracertronic ECU-TEST as the primary test execution engine.
2. Design reusable Python-based test libraries and utility modules for HiL bench control, signal stimulation, measurement capture, and automated pass/fail evaluation.
3. Integrate ECU-TEST projects with NI VeriStand and Vector CANoe environments to orchestrate end-to-end automated test execution.
4. Implement framework features including test data management, parameterized test execution, parallel test runs, and structured test reporting.
5. Drive automated test generation from requirements documents and FMEA items — convert system behaviors, fault conditions, and boundary cases into executable Gherkin scenarios systematically.
6. Maintain BDD scenario libraries covering normal operation, fault injection, boundary conditions, and regression for BMS and EVSE charging functionality.
7. Design and implement modular ECU-TEST test packages, test cases, test steps, and configuration sets for BMS and charging system validation.
8. Develop ECU-TEST Python packages and plug-in scripts to extend framework capability — custom report generators, bench state managers, and signal verification utilities.
9. Configure ECU-TEST tool connections for CANoe, NI VeriStand, INCA, and diagnostic interfaces (UDS/OBD) within a unified test project.
10. Develop and execute automated HiL tests covering the full BMS functional scope: SoC/SoH/SoP estimation, cell balancing (active/passive), thermal management, contactor sequencing, and isolation monitoring.
11. Automate low-voltage (LV) tests: CAN/LIN/SPI/I2C communication validation, DTC generation, UDS diagnostic service testing, and power mode transitions.
12. Automate high-voltage (HV) protection tests: OVP, UVP, OTP, OCP, short-circuit detection, pre-charge validation, HVIL loop verification, and safe-state transitions.
13. Automate AC charging (Level 1/2) and DC fast charging (CCS1/CCS2, CHAdeMO) test scenarios on HiL benches using Vector EVSE Toolkit and NI tools.
14. Validate ISO 15118-2/20 communication stack behavior: session setup, contract certificate handling, power delivery negotiation, and session teardown.
15. Implement BDD scenarios for charging edge cases: cable plug/unplug during charge, EVSE fault injection, communication timeout handling, and re-connection recovery.
Knowledge / Experience
·Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Mechatronics, Automotive Engineering, or a closely related discipline.
·Experience in automotive test automation with a focus on HiL environments.
·Proven expertise in Behavior-Driven Development (BDD) — writing Gherkin Test Cases and driving test generation from requirements.
·Hands-on proficiency with Tracertronic ECU-TEST: test package design, tool connections, Python scripting, ATX reporting, and CI integration.
·Experience writing Python scripts for HiL bench control, CAN message parsing, test data generation, and automated reporting.
·Expert proficiency with Vector CANoe for bus simulation, test module development, and CAPL scripting.
·Hands-on experience with Vector EVSE Toolkit for AC/DC charging station simulation (IEC 61851, ISO 15118, DIN SPEC 70121).
·Familiarity with HIL tools (dSPACE, Vector VT System, NI PXI, or equivalent).
·Ability to generate comprehensive test suites from requirements documents, FMEAs, and safety analyses using systematic test design techniques.
·Proficiency with relevant Python libraries: python-can, cantools, pandas, numpy, jinja2, requests, and parameterized testing utilities.
·Knowledge of BMS protection algorithms: OVP, UVP, OTP, OCP, isolation monitoring (IMD), HVIL, and safe-state logic.
·Understanding of EV charging architecture: OBC, CCU, charging standards (SAE J1772, IEC 62196), and EVSE communication protocols.
