About the role
This is an excellent opportunity for a Contentious Probate Solicitor to join Cartmell Shepherd's Will & Inheritance Disputes team. You'll be part of a supportive, close-knit group of experienced solicitors, where your contribution will be genuinely valued and your achievements recognised. The team sits within Cartmell Shepherd's wider Dispute Resolution department and works closely alongside the Private Client team, which is recognised in the Legal 500 directory.
The successful candidate will manage a varied and interesting caseload acting for high-net-worth individuals (including business and agricultural clients) on matters including:
Court of Protection applications
Claims under the Inheritance (Provision for Family and Dependants) Act 1975
Challenges to Wills or the terms of Trusts
Executor/Trustee disputes
Statutory Will applications

Key responsibilities:
Draft and review legal documents with precision and attention to detail
Maintain regular communication with clients, providing updates and guidance throughout the legal process
Represent clients in negotiations, mediations, and court proceedings when necessary
Mentor and support junior members of the team, fostering a collaborative and supportive work environment

Requirements for the role
Applications are welcomed from candidates holding an SRA practising certificate with a minimum of 4 years' PQE. The ideal candidate will also demonstrate:
Significant experience in contentious probate matters
ACTAPS membership or a willingness to work towards this qualification
A proven track record of handling complex cases for high-net-worth clients
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Strong attention to detail and the ability to work well under pressure
The ability to manage a diverse and busy workload, prioritising tasks effectively
A commitment to ongoing professional development and keeping up to date with relevant legal changes
