Program: Elementary Day Treatment

Job Title: Child Youth Care Worker-Day Treatment (CYW-DT)

Position: Contract, Full Time (40 Hours/ week)

Contract End Date: June 30, 2026

Start Date: ASAP

Salary Range:Band 3, Step 1- $54,811 annually

Reports to: Program Manager

Position Summary:

The Day Treatment Child Youth Care Worker/Practitioner promotes the emotional and physical health and wellbeing of clients of Woodview in a day treatment setting within a team-based milieu. They provide a range of individual and group therapy to enhance the social, emotional and psychological functioning of clients in a day treatment environment, often within a community school. Provides supervision and ongoing assessment within a safe environment and teaches strategies to clients dealing with mental health issues

Job Responsibilities (may include but are not limited to Including scope of practice)

A. Client Service

1. Teaches a variety of age appropriate activities to assist individuals to meet their treatment goals.

2. Identifies client individual academic, behavioural and social needs and modifies programming to meet those needs.

3. Reviews treatment plans and safety plans if needed with families and prepares all treatment reports.

4. Refers clients and family members to other community resources.

5. Coordinates and attends outings as determined by program.

6. Monitors students, answers questions and provides assistance with their academic assignments in conjunction with classroom teacher.

7. May implement and execute hourly incentive programs.

8. Meets individually with clients to discuss treatment and goals.

9. Completes assessments and sets goals with clients.

10. Provides counseling services to individuals.

11. Works independently or as part of a specific multi-disciplinary team to deliver such programs and activities that are determined by the Centre to be beneficial to the clients.

12. Implements specific professional activities as determined and assigned by the Centre and/or program team; such as providing counselling services to individuals, groups, etc; coordinating specific program component (e.g. camping or gym programs) and representing the Centre in specific community activities.

13. Serves in a professional and caring manner that respects the needs, wishes and abilities of the clients, and respects the philosophies and values of the Centre, the community and the profession.

14. Travel to client home or school and transport client when needed.

15. Represents the Centre in specific community activities.

16. Administer client medication as per agency policies.

B. Client Support

1. Acts as a role model to help clients problem solve and improve self-esteem and social skills.

2. Mediates conflicts between clients.

3. Monitors client behaviours, identifies issues and takes corrective actions.

4. Communicates with families, parents and individuals to provide information and support.

5. Incumbent will be responsible for carrying clients at any given time and completing all necessary reports in a timely manner.

6. Communicates with families, parents and individuals to provide information and support.

C. School and Community Support

1. Provides assistance with integration into mainstream schools or other programs, monitoring progress, meeting with Guidance Counselors, instructional program leads, Principals and Teachers and recommending strategies to facilitate successful transitions.

2. Provides structured social interactions with peers and staff.

3. Participates in service coordination meetings with school and board representatives to communicate information, resolve problems and ensure service needs are met. In addition, staff will setup case conferences with school and community partners.

D. Team and Agency Support

1. Represents and promotes the agency in the community.

2. Provides debriefing opportunities for peers, shares information and follows safety strategies to ensure the safety of colleagues.

3. Attends and participates in team meetings to communicate information and review cases.

4. Consults with other service providers to communicate information, resolve problems and ensure a seamless service.

5. Works independently or as part of a specific multi-disciplinary team to deliver such programs and activities that are determined by the Centre to be beneficial to the clients.

6. Undertakes specific professional activities as determined and assigned by the Centre and/or program team; such as providing counselling services to individuals, families, groups, etc; coordinating specific program component (e.g. camping or gym programs) and representing the Centre in specific community activities.

7. Participates in all required staff meetings, case conferences, team meetings, etc.

8. Participates in ongoing evaluation and appraisal of effectiveness of all activities and programs.

E. Administration

1. Enters daily contact notes in the client file and maintains required reports and recordings.

2. Author clinical reports (Assessment, Treatment Plan and Closing). Shared with family/client according to agency policy timelines

3. Complete intake and assessment tools.

F. Professional Development

1. Participates in creating a personal plan for continuing professional training and growth.

2. Commitment to keeping abreast and following the current philosophies and operating practices and procedures of the Centre.

G. Other

1. Complies with Woodview Mental Health and Autism Services policies and procedures.

2. Performs other tasks as assigned by management.

QUALIFICATIONS & COMPETENCIES Including any registration, certification, or licensing required for regulated professionals

Experience

* Must have a valid driver's G license and a reliable vehicle to carry clients.

* A minimum of 2 years experience working with children and youth with emotional, behavioural or social challenges.

* Child & Youth Care Worker/Practitioner diploma from a recognized community college or Social Service Worker diploma or equivalent in education and experience and professional training deemed acceptable to serve the needs of the client population.

* Demonstrated understanding of systems theory as applied to family, school and community.

* Demonstrated high standard of counselling and professional skills, including the ability to work as part of an interdisciplinary team.

* Skills and Knowledge

* Incumbent trained in First Aid, CPR, NVCI is an asset

* Training in AODA and WHMIS is asset

* Participates in additional Woodview training in consultation with manager.

* Must have in depth knowledge of and be able to implement strength-based and evidence-based practices within their clinical service programs.

* Ability to interpret and comply with the policies and procedures of the Agency as outlined in the Policies and Procedures Manual.

* A capacity for self-development and professional growth.

* Strong interpersonal skills, excellent oral and written communication skills and capacity to relate clients.

* EFFORT & WORKING CONDITIONS

The incumbent in this position may work within a variety of milieus – in classroom settings on a daily basis and within the community for outings on an occasional basis.

* The hours of work will essentially follow school days with occasional group activity run in the evenings. Incumbents must be responsive and exhibit sound judgment.

* Manual dexterity is required to use a computer.

* Incumbent must have the ability to physically perform all responsibilities

* Travel will be required, so individuals must be physically capable of operating vehicles safely, posses a valid driver's license and have an acceptable driving record.

* A recent Vulnerable Persons Check certifying that the applicant has not been convicted of any criminal offence, which might be relevant to the position being requested.

* Incumbent will interact with clients, family members and staff under various circumstances

* The hours of work will essentially follow school days with occasional group activity run in the evenings

* Health and Safety

* Incumbent must remain committed to the continued objective of reducing risk of injury and occupational illness in the work place.

* Incumbent is expected to promote the Internal Responsibility System, whereby all parties share responsibility for keeping any health and safety risks to a minimum.

* Incumbent must abide by the Occupational Health and Safety Act as well as any further health and safety responsibilities as outlined in the agency policy and procedure documents.

* Incumbent must be aware of, and work in accordance with the rules and regulations set out by Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System
