From preventive care to comprehensive medical support, we aim to empower individuals to take charge of their health, inspiring them to make the most of their wellbeing. Added to that we’re the first health insurer in the UK to be awarded B-Corp status in recognition of our significant achievements in sustainability, in addition to our ambitious environmental and social responsibility goals.
We're looking for a Legal Counsel to join our small but ambitious legal team. This could be the perfect opportunity for a newly qualified lawyer or someone with a few years' post-qualification experience looking to broaden their skills in an in-house environment.
Why this role is different
This isn't a traditional legal role where you'll simply review contracts and provide advice from the sidelines.
We're looking for someone who is excited by the opportunity to help transform how legal services are delivered within the business. Alongside providing practical, commercial legal support, you'll play a key role in improving processes, driving efficiencies, and helping us embrace new technologies, such as AI, to work smarter and deliver greater value.
As part of a small, high-impact team, you'll have the opportunity to influence how things are done, bring new ideas to the table and see your improvements become embedded across the organisation. If you're someone who enjoys making positive changes and seeing them stick, you'll thrive here.
What you'll be doing
Providing practical, commercial legal advice across a broad range of areas including commercial contracts, insurance and financial services, consumer law, data protection, intellectual property, employment and corporate matters.
Drafting, reviewing and negotiating a variety of commercial agreements and supporting the business in managing contractual risk.
Supporting the development and maintenance of legal templates, customer terms and product documentation.
Partnering with colleagues across the business, particularly within our product teams, to help bring new ideas and propositions to life while ensuring legal and regulatory requirements are considered from the outset.
Working closely with our Procurement team to support contract review processes and help drive efficient contract management practices.
Supporting the Group General Counsel on corporate governance and company secretarial matters when required.
Advising on customer-related issues, complaints, disputes and regulatory matters, helping the business find practical and customer-focused solutions.
Contributing to legal operations initiatives, including process improvement, knowledge management, self-service tools and the adoption of AI-enabled ways of working.
Identifying opportunities to simplify legal processes, improve stakeholder experience and demonstrate measurable value from the legal function.
Building strong relationships across the organisation and becoming a trusted adviser to colleagues at all levels.
Taking ownership of your professional development, continually building your knowledge, skills and expertise.
Supporting a positive, safe and inclusive working environment in line with Simplyhealth's values and policies.
