The Council operates an emergency/out-of-hours service so that it is able to respond to emergencies and provide cover for the Council in the evening, at weekends and bank holidays.

We are currently looking for an Emergency Response Officer (ERO) to join the team. As an ERO you will respond to incidents that take place out of hours, make decisions on behalf of the council and have the authority to commit resources.

Hours: The post holder will be required to be on call during nights, weekends and bank holidays for a period of one week at a time, on a rota basis.

The Role: The post holder will cover a wide variety of duties, including:

* Providing an effective out of hours emergency response service for FHDC;
* Receiving the initial notification of an emergency incident and determining the appropriate response;
* Acting as the council’s first point of contact to attend the scene of an incident or deciding whether or not to deploy an Incident Liaison Officer (ILO) or specialist council officer, whilst liaising with the Council’s Emergency Planning Officer;
* Taking operational decisions including deciding whether to activate the council’s emergency plan and deploy officers, establish a rest centre and whether to commit financial resources in response to an incident;
* Liaising closely with the emergency services and the KCC Duty Officer;
* Undertake planned visits for services, such as Environmental Health, Building Control and Engineers. These will be agreed in advance.

Remuneration: An ERO will receive a standby payment of £200.00 per week whilst on duty. Mileage will be reimbursed in line with your normal mileage rate. If you have any queries regarding the rate of pay, enhancements and mileage rates please contact a member of Human Resources.
