Introduction

The Department of Corrections (DOC) is focused on public safety through the custody and supervision of those in our care. The Division of Adult Institutions is recruiting to fill an Institution Complaint Examiner position. This position is based out of Kettle Moraine Correctional Institution (KMCI) in Plymouth, WI.


Position Summary

This position conducts investigations into inmate complaints and makes recommendations to ensure the orderly operation of the Institution, protection of inmate civil rights, and adherence to Institution and Department Code and Wisconsin State Statutes. Responsibilities also include interpreting administrative codes, departmental policies and procedures to Administrative Team and other staff; directing, analyzing, and preparing special surveys, reports and statistics; developing, composing, and ensuring implementation of policies and procedures; developing and maintaining instruments to ensure orderly running of the Institution (e.g., inmate handbooks); providing public relations functions; completing special projects as directed; and participating as a member of the Administrative Team.


Salary Information

This position is in pay schedule/range 81-04 with an annual salary of $44,241 - $81,536, plus excellent benefits. Pay will be set in accordance with the Compensation Plan and Wisconsin Administrative Code in effect at the time of hire. A 12-month probationary period is required.

Job Details

Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States at the time of application. The Department of Corrections may conduct pre-employment drug screens. The Department of Corrections will conduct criminal background checks on applicants prior to selection. Upon hire, all new DOC employees are subject to fingerprinting.


Qualifications

The qualifications listed below will be evaluated in the first step of the selection process and must be clearly described in the letter of qualifications and/or resume.

Minimally Qualified Applicants Will Have Experience

* Conducting and/or coordinating investigations utilizing investigatory techniques (e.g., interviewing techniques, handling and preserving evidence, record keeping, reports)
* Preparing an investigation summary report and making recommendations based on results for administrative action and resolution
* Interpreting, implementing, and monitoring investigative resolutions, corrective actions, policies and procedures to ensure compliance (e.g., from staff, managers, agencies, the general public, other appropriate parties)

In addition to the above, well qualified applicants will have experience:

* Reviewing and analyzing investigative findings of cases (such as those involving complaints, criminal and/or other legal or policy matters) for accuracy, compliance, thoroughness, and appropriateness of recommended solutions for administrative action and resolution
* Responding to litigation and providing assistance for other staff responding to litigation requests as needed in the criminal justice field.
