Offer description

Dorset HealthCare is excited to announce vacancies for Trainee Children's Wellbeing Practitioners in the CAMHS Gateway service across the county. This is an excellent opportunity for passionate, flexible, and enthusiastic individuals with the right skills to join a highly motivated team. This employment-based training role is part of an NHSE, HEE, and DoH initiative to expand the mental health workforce supporting children and young people at an early intervention stage.

Successful candidates will undertake the Postgraduate Diploma in Brief Evidence-Based Interventions for CYP with Common Mental Health Problems (CWP) at the University of Exeter, starting January 2026.

The role involves a 12-month training course at the University of Exeter, where you will be supervised to deliver brief evidence-based therapeutic interventions within a stepped care model for children and young people with common mental health issues such as depression and anxiety disorders.

During the course, you will attend university-based taught and self-study days as required, and work in the service on remaining days to apply your skills.

Candidates must be available to start in mid-January.

We are proud to be part of the wider Dorset CAMHS service, which has achieved significant progress, including a 'Good' rating for community services and an 'Outstanding' rating for inpatient services. We are involved in delivering new care models, mental health support teams in schools, and building a new PICU.

This role is demanding yet rewarding; a flexible, hardworking approach is essential to manage the training and provide psychological interventions to young people with mild to moderate mental health problems. Enthusiasm, passion, good administrative, time management, and communication skills are required. NHS or similar experience is highly desirable.

This is a fixed-term role; for current NHS staff, it is offered on a secondment basis with prior permission needed.

At Dorset HealthCare, we aim to empower people through outstanding, integrated healthcare services. We are a dynamic Trust rated 'outstanding' by CQC, serving nearly 800,000 people with a diverse range of services. We value diversity, promote equality, and strive to create an inclusive workplace where everyone can thrive.

Join us to build a career, challenge yourself, and contribute to our mission of continuous improvement through excellence, compassion, and expertise.
