Shift Engineer
Contract Details
Contract: Banking. Location: Glasgow, G52 4TG. Hours of work: 41. Contract Type: Permanent.
Job Summary
The Shift Engineer will deliver planned preventative maintenance (PPMs) and reactive works across two data centre locations, acting as the on‑site engineer responsible for day‑to‑day site operations. The role requires a proactive individual who can maintain high standards across critical building services while ensuring a safe, well‑presented and fully operational corporate environment.
Working Pattern
28‑day rota comprising 14 shifts (7 day shifts and 7 night shifts) as follows:
* Week 1: 4 night shifts
* Week 2: 6 day shifts
* Week 3: 1 day shift and 3 night shifts
* Week 4: Off
Shift rota issued 6 weeks in advance.
Key Responsibilities
* Deliver PPM and reactive maintenance activities across two data centre sites, acting as the sole on‑site engineer when required.
* Carry out daily site walk‑rounds, identifying defects and ensuring all areas are safe, tidy and fully operational.
* Escort and coordinate subcontractors, ensuring compliance with site procedures, risk assessments and method statements.
* Ensure meeting rooms are correctly set up, including furniture alignment, A/V functionality and air conditioning before and after use.
* Monitor and maintain HVAC systems, checking control panels for faults and liaising with landlord site engineers where required.
* Carry out general building fabric checks, including doors, escape routes, glazing, windows, blinds, office furniture and fixtures.
* Inspect plumbing systems, toilets and drainage, recording water temperatures and resolving minor blockages or defects.
* Communicate PPM progress and reactive issues with ISS engineers, FOH teams and attend weekly coordination meetings.
Professional and Personal Competencies / Qualifications
* Experience working in high‑level corporate environments delivering general building services.
* Proven experience operating as an engineer on‑site, managing priorities and responding to reactive issues.
* Strong experience working under strict Health & Safety procedures, including risk assessments and method statements.
* Hands‑on experience carrying out PPMs and reactive maintenance across building services.
* Experience monitoring and supporting HVAC systems, identifying faults and liaising with landlord or specialist engineers.
* Practical experience undertaking electrical tasks and fault finding within a commercial environment.
* Basic HVAC systems knowledge, including fault checking and operational monitoring.
