We are looking for Fabrication specialists and CNC Machinists, reporting into the Operations Manager, to join one of our Shift teams.
Role overview
The successful candidate will perform the following duties:
1. Set-up / changeover and or operate a range of Mill-turn/ Twin Turret, Grinding or Sliding head machines and machining centers by installing and adjusting work holding, tooling and tool wear offsets.
2. Efficiently and productively load and safely operate a range of CNC machines ensuring that down time is minimised.
3. Able to run multiple machines / set-ups (multi task).
4. Recognise, deploy, and properly use inserts, work holding, and tooling.
5. Efficient identification of production process tool wear and the timely adjustment, replacement of worn, broken or damaged cutting tools.
6. Verify programs and settings using a range of measuring / inspection equipment and apply appropriate adjustments to ensure that component quality is maintained.
7. Provide timely feedback to the Line Manager on issues and any recommendations for process and/or quality improvement.
8. Routinely electronically register and record all process operations on all machine tools being used and maintain results daily.
9. Contribute to continuous improvement activities within the machining section.
10. Ensure that daily / weekly / monthly maintenance tasks are carried out as required.
11. Maintain a high level of housekeeping.
12. Adhere to company procedure at all times.
13. To support with any other ad-hoc tasks where required.
14. To carry out any other reasonable tasks as may be requested from time to time to support the business within the various production areas, manufacturing facilities or elsewhere as may be required.
15. To take a responsible and proactive approach to health, safety, and environmental risks in relation to your own role and to control the risks or report them to the management team as appropriate.
16. Train and mentor other machinists / apprentices on site.
Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience)
17. Skilled engineer with experience of setting and operating CNC machines.
18. Good level of numeracy and literacy.
19. Good level of IT skills.
20. Communicates honestly, professionally, and respectfully with others and demonstrates effective listening skills.
21. Understands and can perform workshift and tool wear compensation / offsets.
22. Able to read and interpret engineering drawings
23. Ability to perform basic mathematical computations. (Ability to apply concepts such as trigonometry, fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations).
24. Perform daily and regular cleaning and light maintenance tasks on machinery.
Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience)
25. Used to working to tight tolerances in a wide range of materials.
26. A strong working knowledge of cutting tool setting and applications and competent with the use of complex fixtures.
27. Able to troubleshoot machining processes and work under own initiative.
28. Able to train and mentor others.
29. Experience of working in a dynamic sub-contract machining environment.
30. FLT license desirable.
31. Ability to reduce setup time and machining through process improvements.
32. Experience of Aerospace machining and AS9100 requirements is desirable, other highly regulated industries will also be considered (medical, nuclear, automotive etc).
33. Either: previous experience as a machinist with experience of CNC machines or a minimum: HNC qualified machinist.
