While the role has direct line management of four apprentice engineers, it is broader than a standalone apprentice remit. You will also provide day‑to‑day leadership cover and technical support across the wider engineering teams, working closely with two other Engineering Team Leaders who each lead teams of senior and multi‑skilled engineers.
This role plays an important part in delivering safe, reliable, and cost‑effective engineering performance, while supporting the Site Engineering Manager in progressing the site’s Maintenance Excellence roadmap.
Key Responsibilities
1. Lead, coach, and develop a team of apprentice engineers, ensuring structured development and strong engagement
2. Provide leadership cover and engineering support across all maintenance teams, as required
3. Support the effective delivery of planned maintenance, breakdown response, and plant availability
4. Drive a strong safety culture, ensuring full compliance with health & safety standards and SSOW
5. Use CMMS data to support forward planning, asset improvement, and maintenance optimisation
6. Lead and contribute to RCA, 5 Why, and continuous improvement activities
7. Support Reliability Centred Maintenance (RCM) and FMECA activities
8. Manage contractors and suppliers, ensuring performance, safety, and cost effectiveness
9. Actively support Operational Excellence and Maintenance Excellence initiatives at site level
10. Collaborate with operations, technical, and engineering colleagues to improve overall site performance
What We’re Looking For
11. Proven experience in a maintenance or engineering leadership role within a manufacturing environment (food/FMCG highly desirable)
12. Strong people leadership skills with experience coaching, developing, and motivating engineers
13. Sound mechanical and/or electrical engineering background
14. Experience using CMMS systems and maintenance planning processes
15. Confident in problem solving, root cause analysis, and driving continuous improvement
16. A visible, credible leader with the ability to influence across teams and functions
17. IOSH or equivalent health & safety knowledge preferred
Why Join?
18. High‑visibility leadership position within engineering
19. Opportunity to influence site‑wide engineering standards and improvement activity
