ROLE: Mechanical Maintenance Operative
LOCATION: HMP Millsike, York

We're looking for a Mechanical Maintenance Operative to deliver planned and reactive maintenance services at HMP Millsike, a modern custodial facility focused on rehabilitation, safety, and positive outcomes.
Role Responsibilities:
1. Deliver Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) and reactive mechanical maintenance across site assets.
2. Ensure full compliance with health & safety, SHE, fire safety, and statutory regulations.
3. Liaise with engineers, subcontractors, and site stakeholders to resolve maintenance issues effectively.
4. Complete all maintenance documentation accurately and in line with business procedures.
5. Participate in a 24/7 shift rota, including weekend working and out‑of‑hours call‑out.
Required Qualifications: applicants must meet the below defined requirements for the role.
6. A recognised Apprenticeship or equivalent in mechanical or building services engineering, or relevant NVQ / C&G qualifications (e.g. NVQ Level 3, HVAC, Gas, F‑Gas, 18th Edition).
7. Proven experience delivering maintenance services within a large, complex environment.
8. Practical knowledge of building services systems, including heating, ventilation, electrical distribution, and public health.
9. Basic to intermediate IT skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
10. Strong communication skills and a proactive, flexible, team‑focused approach.

Additional Requirements (Security & Vetting):
16. Right to Work in the UK with valid, in‑date documentation.
17. Continuous UK residency for the past 3 years with limited overseas travel.
18. Successful completion of Enhanced DBS, 5‑year referencing, and CTC vetting.
