The Role
Due to rapid growth and continuous success, we are currently seeking an Assistant Site Manager to join our Fortem team across the Birmingham area. This is a permanent full-time position assisting with the operational management of a social housing refurbishment programme.
The Customer
You will be part of one of Fortem's largest social housing contracts, Birmingham City Council. This expanding £50m Repairs & Maintenance, Capital Works, and Retrofit contract is the largest social housing contract in Europe, managing over 22,500 properties in Birmingham, including low, medium, and high-rise blocks. This fast-paced, focused, and dedicated contract has been re-awarded three times, and we are proud to support this exceptional client.
Duties and Responsibilities
* Assist with the management and safe delivery of social housing refurbishment works.
* Report to the Site Manager and oversee contractors and operational refurbishment/construction across tenanted properties.
* Ensure all works comply with BS7671 and other relevant standards.
* Ensure work instructions to trades or subcontractors are clear, unambiguous, and represent a full workload, seeking to maximize productivity.
* Lead a team of supply chain partners, solve problems related to their works, and conduct safety inspections.
* Carry out WIPs on directly employed tradespeople and quality inspections on all works.
* Organize work activity and prioritize tasks for the team.
* Complete accident reports in case of injuries.
* Manage site welfare facilities.
* Support tenants daily and aim for excellent customer satisfaction.
What You Will Need
Essential
* Experience in social housing refurbishment programmes.
* Roofing knowledge/experience.
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
* Problem-solving and analytical skills.
* Ability to work under pressure.
* IT skills: MS Office, ECDL, MS Project.
* Ability to engage with people and build strong relationships with trades, colleagues, clients, and managers.
* Experience working in a planned works environment/site.
Desirable
* Experience in social housing repairs and maintenance.
* Understanding of job costing.
* CSCS Card.
* Flexibility for regular travel.
Additional Desirable
* SMSTS certification.
