Welfare Officer - Job Overview
This role is perfect for someone who may want to work but also enjoy their downtime. The role requires 35 hours per week, providing more free time to pursue personal interests such as sports, study, or gaming.
This position suits individuals who can connect with children in a caring, approachable, yet professional manner. You should be able to listen, observe for signs of issues, supervise appropriately, and follow procedures.
You will be the primary responder for accommodation and welfare issues for our international students during their stay. Your role includes supporting the centre, activity, and academic management to ensure high standards of delivery.
Your responsibilities include ensuring students are up in the mornings and in bed at night, supervising meal times, and being 'on call' during much of the day to support the centre and students as needed.
Your support will be crucial in ensuring the smooth operation of activities, academic programs, and the overall centre.
Responsibilities include:
* Supervising meal times and assisting with dietary issues
* Enforcing curfew and quiet hours
* Liaising with centre and welfare management regarding accommodation issues
* Assisting groups around the site as needed
* Helping with doctor or A&E visits
Additional duties:
* Monitoring accommodation for issues such as room damage
* Supporting students who may need extra assistance, acting as a friendly and attentive presence
* Managing the tuck shop during breaks, monitoring stock levels
* Building good relationships with group leaders to identify and address student difficulties
* Following safeguarding procedures when necessary
Job Details
* Full Board: Accommodation and meals provided
* Salary (including holiday pay): Under 21 - £300/week, Over 21 - £390/week, Returners bonus - £50/week (based on 35 hours)
* Travel Allowance: £30 one-off payment
* Working Hours: Up to 35 hours/week, typically 6 days
* Contract Dates: April, July & August 2025
* Pre-joining training: 2 paid days required before starting
Eligibility
You must:
* Be over 18 years old
* Be eligible to work in the UK
* Obtain an enhanced DBS check
* Have a good level of English
You should:
* Be a natural host
* Be responsible, proactive, diplomatic, respectful
* Be organized and meticulous
It's a plus if:
* You are a qualified first aider
* You have previous experience in similar roles
