The Role:
We are seeking an experienced Senior IT Engineer to join our on-site IT team at our Ardleigh Green campus.
This is a hands‑on senior technical role, providing third‑line support across end‑user support, servers, and networking, and acting as a key escalation point for Engineers and Technicians on site. You will work under the direction of the IT manager, taking operational ownership for the quality, timeliness and technical standard of IT support delivered on campus.
You will be expected to lead through experience – diagnosing and resolving complex technical issues, mentoring junior staff, and taking responsibility for incidents through to resolution in a busy, live operational environment.
This role will suit someone who enjoys being close to the environment they support, is comfortable balancing hands‑on technical work with leadership responsibilities, and has experience support live systems.
Key responsibilities:
* Act as a senior technical escalation point for complex incidents affecting systems, networks and services.
* Provide technical leadership and guidance to Engineers and Technicians on site.
* Deliver senior‑level support across networking, including switches, firewalls, Wi‑Fi and connectivity.
* Carry out hands‑on technical work where required, including end‑user support, systems administration and infrastructure tasks.
* Manage incidents and technical tasks through to completion, keeping users informed and escalating appropriately.
* Contribute to local projects and wider College IT initiatives.
What we are looking for:
* Demonstrable hands‑on experience supporting live IT systems in a production environment.
* Experience acting as a technical escalation point for complex incidents.
* Practical experience troubleshooting network connectivity, including switches, Wi‑Fi and firewalls.
* Strong working knowledge of Windows 10/11, Active Directory, Microsoft 365/Entra/Intune and mixed PC/Mac environments
* Experience mentoring or providing technical guidance to other IT staff.
* Excellent communication skills and confidence working with both technical and non‑technical users.
