This is a permanent post, available to commence as soon as possible, but a suitable start date could be arranged with the successful applicant. Participation in the on-call rota is a requirement of this role. Full GMC registration is required.
The successful candidate will be one of 20 Consultant General Surgeons working across two hospital sites to provide Emergency General Surgery and elective Upper GI services. They should have an interest in Upper GI conditions and will be expected to handle a share of elective and emergency general surgical work. The post also involves covering colleagues during leave commitments.
The post holder will:
1. Conduct theatre lists, clinics, and endoscopy sessions, and participate in ward care of emergency and elective patients.
2. Take an active role in the management of General Surgery patients.
3. Have a specialist interest in Upper GI surgery.
4. Participate in a 1 in 20 on-call rota for General Surgery at Royal Preston Hospital and Chorley District Hospital, and an additional 1 in 10 sub-specialty duty rota.
5. Contribute to Major Trauma management, supporting the regional Major Trauma Centre with a consultant-led trauma team, providing out-of-hours support when on-call.
