Job Description

Location: Spean Bridge, West Highlands

Salary: £31,000–£36,000 (DOE & targets)

Hours: 40 hrs/week, Mon–Fri + occasional evening/weekend events

Annual Leave: 35 days

Based in Spean Bridge, Glen Spean Brewing Co. has grown since 2017 to become the leading craft brewery in the region, producing award‑winning beers in cask, keg, can and bottle for customers across the Highlands and Islands. We’re now seeking an experienced brewer to join our dedicated team and lead production as we continue to grow.

Function of the Role

To take overall responsibility for the timely production and development of Glen Spean beers to a consistently high standard, aligned with sales requirements and the growth of the business.

Key Responsibilities

* Lead and manage day‑to‑day production to ensure consistently high‑quality beer, including monitoring, quality assurance, and record keeping.
* Identify and implement cost and time efficiencies within production.
* Develop and refine recipes in line with GSB product values and innovation goals.
* Plan and deliver monthly brew schedules, ensuring stock levels meet projected sales requirements; adapt plans as issues arise and troubleshoot effectively.
* Produce timely monthly production forecasts and brew plans.
* Coordinate packaging, transfers, and accurate delivery of beer to and from the brewery and third‑party packagers, ensuring stock and packaging availability.
* Develop and maintain brewery cleaning schedules and ensure a clean, safe, clutter‑free working environment.
* Ensure timely procurement of ingredients, equipment, packaging, labels, and other materials required for brewing.
* Maintain accurate brewing records on Breww.
* Provide oversight, training, and development for the brewing team.
* Ensure full audit trails for traceability and beer movement in line with HACCP and HMRC requirements.
* Create and maintain up‑to‑date Standard Operating Procedures for brewing, cleaning, and maintenance.
* Oversee preventative maintenance and repairs, demonstrating strong mechanical aptitude.
* Monitor industry trends and contribute to business growth planning.
* Ensure health and safety procedures are up to date and implemented across the team.
* Contribute to social media strategy and content where relevant.
* Support deliveries, transfers, and logistics as required.
* Represent the brand at events, occasionally during evenings and weekends.
* Carry out additional tasks as required to support the smooth running of the brewery.

Key Requirements and Attributes

* Minimum three years’ commercial brewing experience.
* Meticulous attention to detail.
* Strong understanding of technical aspects of brew kit and machinery.
* Ability to undertake the physical nature of brewing and distribution work.
* Right to live and work in the UK.
* Full driving licence.
* A positive, “can‑do” attitude.
* Effective communicator and team player.
* Highly organised with excellent time‑management and planning skills.
* Proven ability to juggle multiple production streams and plan ahead for supply chain delays, seasonal demand, and logistics.
* Demonstrated problem‑solving ability and a calm, practical approach when things go wrong.
* Strong understanding of compliance, including HACCP, HMRC beer duty requirements, and food safety standards.
* Experience producing beer across multiple formats (cask, keg, can, bottle) and understanding of conditioning and packaging requirements for each.
* Confidence working with pumps, valves, CIP systems, and cellar equipment, with the ability to carry out basic maintenance and identify issues early.
* Competence with brewery management software (Breww or similar), spreadsheets, and production data analysis.
* Strong sense of responsibility, reliability, and professionalism.
* Ability to represent the brand confidently at events and within the community.
* Genuine enthusiasm for craft beer, ingredients, and innovation, with an interest in ongoing professional development.

Desirable Attributes

* Forklift licence.
* IBD General Certificate in Brewing or equivalent.
* Ability to set standards and uphold them consistently.
* Confidence in delegating and organising workflow.
* Awareness of cost control, efficiency, and yield.
* Understanding of how production links to sales and cashflow.
* Ability to forecast realistically and communicate clearly with the wider team.
* Comfort working with management systems (Breww, HMRC compliance).
* Pride in representing a local brand at events and in the community.
