To perform technical duties to meet the requirements of productions and undertake day-to-day operations of the Production & Technical Department. We are a looking for a person who can demonstrate a positive attitude and a willingness to learn alongside relevant experience. Undertake technical duties on in-house productions and tours. Undertake tasks assigned by the Technical Manager or Senior Technicians, both within and outside specialisms. Install equipment according to the demands of the production, consulting with other departments to use space, time, and resources effectively. Operate technical equipment competently and safely including operating shows. Prepare show files and programme desks as required. Prepare paperwork for anyone taking over an operational role, e.g. duties list, script etc Undertake technical duties on visiting performances, hires, projects, or participatory activity. Appropriately interpret hanging plots, lighting plans etc and undertake rigging and installation. Rig equipment safely and effectively, according to in-house practices. Undertake safe flying procedures, according to in house practices. Oversee casual staff as directed and ensure safe procedures throughout, including use of PPE, correct use of rigging and safety systems. Ensure job completion and update the Technical Manager or Senior Technicians accordingly. Load and unload trucks, move equipment and set and carry items according to our code of practice. Monitor own skill requirements for upcoming projects and seek additional training where necessary. Occasional supervision of staff Ensure self and staff have correct information, PPE and equipment to carry out tasks safely and effectively. Identify own training needs and undertake training as necessary. Liaise with Senior Technicians to plan efficient Get In procedures, so that tasks are manageable and easily understood by casual staff. Provide paperwork (plans, task lists etc) so that casual staff can undertake work independently. Supervise tasks to ensure safe working practices and high standards of work. Provide training to casual staff to perform specific roles or develop skills, as directed by the Technical Manager or Senior Technicians. Maintain good practice with regards to policy, procedures & practice to ensure health & safety Perform regular PAT/electrical testing during annual maintenance and throughout the year. Participate in the installation and testing of new equipment. Perfom repairs to technical equipment, stage and building infrastructure as directed. Follow systems and processes to work safely backstage and onstage. Monitor and contribute to the safe running and maintenance of all Northern Stage buildings and property. Day-to-day operations of the Technical and Production department Work to lifting plans for moving stage equipment and scenic elements. Ensuring all areas backstage are kept in a safe manner and that all equipment is stored safely and correctly. Monitor stocks of consumables and request refills. Operate shows or act as duty technician as required. Work at height, including working up ladders, operating MEWPs (Mobile Elevating Work Platforms) and working in the grid above the stage, while adhering to Health and Safety practices. Assist other team members to ensure they can meet deadlines such as rigging and focussing of lights and speakers. Be a keyholder and be responsible for operating the building when assigned as a Duty Manager, including opening, and closing the building. Be a trained and qualified first aider for staff and the public. Rig equipment safely and effectively, according to in-house practices. Duty Management Follow the open and lock-up procedures and responsibilities for the building. Have good knowledge of all building access points. Have good knowledge of the fire and building alarm panel. Be the first point of contact and First Aider to all staff and the public. Act as the duty manager during performances to respond to urgent needs as and when required. Actively engage with staff training and participation activities, including providing training and running sessions Provide training to casual staff to perform specific roles or to develop particular skills, such as use of the control desks. Prepare and undertake training sessions with work experience participants and similar groups. Candidates should have demonstrable experience in: Essential Criteria Well developed skills in programming for ETC lighting desks Knowledge of theatre practice, particularly in the rigging and installation of lighting equipment. Knowledge of appropriate health & safety rules,cregulations, and guidelines. Knowledge of current technical theatre work practices, and equipment. Ability to read schematics, ground plans, tech specs and schedules. Experience of working in teams during Get Ins and Get Outs Strong communication skills. Ability to work unsupervised and meet deadlines. Good attention to detail. Sound numeracy and IT skills. A desire not only to get the job done, but get it done well.
