Specialist Grade General Adult Psychiatry (EIP and Community)

This is a full time (10 PA) post for a specialist psychiatrist to provide medical input into the East Adult Community Treatment and the Early Intervention in Psychosis teams located at Portland House Team in Carlisle, Cumbria. The post holder is expected to have total DCC of 8 PA between the EIP and a small caseload of CTOs in CTT. The post also includes 2 PAs for SPA. This is a replacement post as the current postholder has relocated.
Post holder will work with a multidisciplinary team covering the adult population in North-Cumbria.
There are opportunities to be part of ongoing changes within services in the region such as:
* Hope Haven the 24/7 hub which aims to bring together a range of services under one roof while working with existing community service support. It is one of six pilot centres funded by NHS England and due to launch in April 2025.
* The Pears Cumbria School of Medicine (PCSM), a collaboration between the University of Cumbria and Imperial College London, aiming to produce doctors committed to delivering cutting-edge healthcare approaches for the Cumbria community.
Main duties of the job
It is envisaged that the post holder will work ten programmed activities. Following appointment there will be a meeting at no later than three months with the clinical manager to review and revise the job plan and objectives of the post holder. The overall split of the programmed activities is 8 activities to be devoted to direct clinical care and 2 to supporting professional activities (as per the Royal College of Psychiatrists recommendation).

The post holder will provide senior clinical expertise in the assessment and treatment of individuals with complex mental health problems and what are termed as at-risk mental states.
Post holder will be expected to work closely with each other as well as local agencies such as the Crisis Team, and Inpatient services to ensure safe and timely transitions when required.

Job responsibilities
The East Community Treatment and EIP teams provide an assessment and treatment service for people over the age of 18 years, experiencing difficulty with their mental health based on an episodic model of care.

Person Specification
Qualifications / Eligibility
* MBBS (or equivalent)
* Full Registration with the GMC (or eligible to become registered before appointment) with a licence to practice
* Completed a minimum of 12 years\' medical work (either continuous period or in aggregate) since obtaining a primary medical qualification of which a minimum of six years should have been in a relevant specialty in the Specialty Doctor and/or closed SAS grades
* Shall meet the criteria set out in the Specialist grade generic capabilities framework
* Approved under Section 12(2) of the Mental Health Act 1983
* Approved Clinician Status or working towards attaining AC Status within six months
* MRCPsych or equivalent qualification
* Postgraduate qualifications in a relevant field
* Has undergone training in educational supervision
* Has undergone training in appraisal
* Included on GMC Specialist Register (General Psychiatry) or eligible for inclusion
Knowledge
* Up to date knowledge in the field of Psychiatry
* Working knowledge of the Mental Health Act 1983
* Good knowledge of relevant Mental Health legislation including the MCA
* Good knowledge of clinical risk management
* Good knowledge of evidence based strategies for management of psychiatric disorder
* Awareness of current issues and controversies in service provision, mental health policy and legislation
Experience
* Develop effective relationships across teams and contribute to the success of these teams - promote and participate in multidisciplinary and inter-professional teamwork
* Wide clinical experience in psychiatry in different clinical settings
* Experience of working autonomously
* Awareness of leadership responsibilities as a clinician and demonstrates appropriate leadership behaviour
* Able to manage unfamiliar, complex or unpredictable situations, adapting leadership behaviours to improve engagement outcomes and building collaboration with others
* Experience in multi-agency work especially with service users, carers and voluntary agencies
* Experience in service management or development
* Experience of clinical audit
Skills
* High level of clinical skills including proven competence in diagnosis and management of psychiatric disorders
* Act as a role model, educator, supervisor, coach or mentor for medical and non-medical practitioners
* Able to work effectively as part of a multi-disciplinary team
* Good teaching skills
* Demonstrate the ability to work in a time efficient manner
* Established record of clinical leadership
* Established ability as a clinical teacher
* Training in specific and relevant treatment skills e.g. a brief form of psychological therapy
* Ability to apply psychological models to practical situations
